Former General Motors luxury division chief Mark McNabb is apparently set to head up Maserati ’s North American efforts, according to sources in Italy and the United States. McNabb, whose main task had been to lead Cadillac , Saab and Hummer, spent the bulk of his 13 months at GM trying to find a new buyer for the two latter brands.
According to Automotive News, McNabb will replace Marti Eulberg who left the Italian automaker last month “to pursue other opportunities.”

McNabb announced his departure from GM last week. He had previously worked primarily for Nissan , though a brief stint as VP of Sales at Mercedes-Benz USA has helped give him some European luxury experience.

Maserati is a tough sell at the moment, as premium luxury car sales have dropped off significantly due to the global economic downturn. Sales are down nearly 60 percent this year.
