Former General Motors purchasing chief Bo Andersson has apparently left the Detroit automaker for a position with Russia’s second largest automaker, GAZ, which is a partner in the planned Magna International-led acquisition of Opel. Andersson is set to serve as GAZ’s chief consultant to the automaker’s board of directors.
“A possibility to be appointed chairman of (the) GAZ board of directors has been discussed with him previously, and the shareholders hope that this candidate will be elected,” GAZ said in a statement released to the media. Andersson announced his departure from GM last week.
Based in Russia’s Detroit, Nizhny Novgorod, GAZ is expected to receive Sberbank’s 35 percent of Opel once the proposed deal is wrapped up.
Prior to his post in Detroit, Andersson had worked at Saab and as GM Europe’s purchasing operations chief.
