Ex-Obama Chrysler 300C goes on eBay

12/09/2008, 9:22 AM

By Andrew Ganz

President-elect Barack Obama’s former Chrysler 300C has come up for sale on eBay – with a startling opening price of $100,000. Though no bids have registered yet for the grey Hemi-powered luxury sedan, the auction is set to continue for another eight days before ending. Obama traded the 300C for a Ford Escape Hybrid in 2007.

The 2005 Chrysler has just 20,000 miles on it, but the asking price reflects a $85,000 premium over a 300C without the provenance of having Obama as the first owner.

Obama’s 300C is equipped with a power moonroof, chrome factory wheels, a wood-rimmed steering wheel and a navigation system, according to the seller.

Obama bought it new from Park Plaza Chrysler in Forest Park, Illinois, but he traded the gas-guzzling sedan in for a more efficient Escape Hybrid at Hawk Ford in Oak Lawn, Illinois, in 2007. Chrysler kept control of the car until February, 2008, when the seller purchased it directly from the manufacturer.

Someone will want it.

Obama is a legend, and an incredible man. Think people, if you could buy Robert Kennedy’s old car…you wouldn’t all be talking so much **** if that was the case…people just don’t like this happening because of how much attention Obama has received lately, but he has received it with due cause, and I can see how this vehicle would be worth this; He will go down in history.

What has Kennedy done? Ike was a true American hero, FDR, Clinton, Reagan, but Kennedy has done nothing. Guy was a bum.

Oh look, he changed his preference for automobile purchases right before the election, kinda like how he magically supports the second amendment after years of pushing anti-firearm legislation. What a hero!

i think they ruined this cars future value by having the price to high already. this car will be worth a lot later on in life, NOT right away! he hasn’t done anything radical yet besides being the first black to be president.

this is retarded. I want to meet the idiot who considers the chrysler 300c a “luxury sedan.” I’ve never seen so much plastic in my life until i sat in one of those. Just because you put top-grain leather seats in a regular car doesn’t make it a luxury car.

Most of you guys are effing idiots. Stop with the stupid comments. Stop nitpicking at tiny details of the story. Take the story for what it is. It’s telling of a vehicle up for auction which was previously owned by the next president of the United States. Period. Truth is, someone will buy it. If they do, it’s their prerogative, not yours. They can afford it, you can’t. End of story.

@…bmwmpower
I for one I’m just knocking the fact that, and I quote…
“$85,000 premium over a 300C “without” the provenance of having Obama as the first owner.”
And that it’s a Chrysler 300C… I’m just saying, he should be driving a more upscale Domestic…

“luxury car” ??? Do you guys proofread before you post? Since when in a Chrysler a “luxury” car. And what on earth does that make a German saloon, a god car?
