Except for Nissan, Japanese automakers on the rise

06/26/2006, 4:53 PM

Four major Japanese automakers today reported their global production rose in May, but the country’s second-biggest automaker, Nissan Motor, posted a decline, reports the Associated Press. Nissan said worldwide production fell 11.0 percent as domestic and overseas production declined for the fifth consecutive month. Toyota, Honda, Mazda, and Mitsubishi reported increases of 10.4 percent, 6.8 percent, 19.3 percent, and 4.2 percent, respectively.

I take it that Peter’s never been to South Korea. Otherwise, he’d be fawning over the Japanese regarding their cleanliness.

hoY!
its the reality that’s comming, survival of the fittest, and right now jap car companies or going to the top, might be quality and price that US cars can’t match, it might be MEAN and BIG ain’t working so good anymore with the price of cars and gas and maintenance. jap cars just probably providing more and giving more of what the customers want, lower cost of ownership, more per gallon, and good quality and great value, and US ain’t up to the task! might be all that US politics and the mentality of if it aint’ cost effective it wont’ happen!

#3, Mitsubishi sells less cars than Suzuki. Mitsubishi is dead. 10% increase for them is still dead.

Of course Nissan’s sales would drop these months. The Nissan Altima accounts for 29% of Nissan USA vehicle sales, Maxima 7%, Sentra 14%, Quest 4%, for total of 54% of Nissan USA’s vehicles redesigned, and released these coming months. Add to that the Versa, with huge interior space.
Nissan sales will go back up once the 2007 Altima hits the lot.

The 350Z (+4.2%), Frontier (+39.4%), Murano (+3.4%) had increases in sales.

The US and it’s people have far more to learn from the Japanese than just automobiles and consumer electronics. Some of the comments I see here make me embarrassed to be an American.

Americans have better sex than Japanese. American women also do not get groped and have their rights violated like Japanese women. The superior sex, and respect for women makes American a better country than Japan.
Japan should learn how to have sex from the US.

Toyota and Honda are being fuel efficient and inovative while Ford, GM, and Chrysler are still plopping large gas guzzling V8’s in their cars, and doing stupid retro-fit designs…geee American car companies really don’t get it, and I try to support American industry as much as possible. The American mini-van segment is especially poor (it may not sound big but every bit counts!)

I can’t wait til the Chinese bring over their $7.8k SUVs. American automotive companies will just have to fold up, or sell abroad. In China, American cars are considered luxury items.

“as a matter of fact lets just give them our freedoms … we don’t use them…”

Freedom of choice. If I want to buy a Japanese car because it fits my needs and desires, then I have the right to do so.

Free world, buy what you want. You should have the freedom to buy a latest design with new technology no matter where it is from whether from the German Japeneses or anyone Else. Surely it will be better then a fifty odd year american design and you should not feel guilty of being against domestic cars while buying it.

The amount of nationalistic (not bad in healthy amounts), ignorant (laughable but disgusting in any quantity…appalling on most internet forums) bull$h!t that goes on here, is scary. (although admittedly better than most places on the Internet.)

While many Japanese cities are indeed ugly as hell, they are by no means dirty. Japan is by far the cleanest place I’ve ever been to. I mean you can almost eat off the floors of most washrooms…almost.

All the slagging that goes on here is both irritating and satisfying at the same time. Grossly satisfying. Why? Because I’m glad that I can happily appreciate and enjoy all my cars, from the wonderful Z06 that takes so much heat for being the best supercar for the money on the planet, to the G35 and the GTR, to the IS350, to the SL500 and the M3.

I can cheer for Button in the Honda, Villeneuve in his BMW, and Montoya in his Mercedes. (Ok, they might not be doing so hot at the moment…that’s not the point…)

While I do admit I am partial against American cars and favor Euro/Japanese cars, I am really happy I avoid the highly polarized biases that seem to plague these, and other, forums.

Long live the Z06, the GTR, and the M3.

first of all mazda WAS owned by ford just like Mitsu WAS owned by dodge untill a few years ago. GMC has been announcing that they are failing (just look at their stock) hence why they keep laying of workers and nissan is starting to lose buyers because there cars have gone awhile without be revamped so anyone who wanted them has them. Mitsu is doing surprisingly well being #6 automaker in japan compared to #11 a few years ago (thank the almighty evo for that) so and the only american car company doing any real profit is cadilac (which i harbor a nuetral stance) while dodge would do well to release the Dodge viper at a lower price and a new sports car around the 25-35k zone and begin to look at stop making SUVs (after all you heard the reports about SUV arson lately. But as it stands American cars are built the same yes but with alot less thought and not as good of materials. Honda lowered their numbers thanks to a few advances by other companies that they aren’t taking advantage of (AWD for cars has been a big feature lately) and they finally did a turbo for engines… but for a SUV stupidly we might be seeing the fall of honda…
