Exposed: 2007 Dodge Avenger R/T

09/04/2006, 6:38 PM

By admin

A series of images have surfaced online purportedly of the 2007 Dodge Avenger R/T sedan. The car is based on the 2007 Chrysler Sebring, and is expected to make its official debut at the Paris Motor Show later this month. Several readers contacted Leftlane with the images, but the original source of the photos is unknown. We suspect they come from within Chrysler and have been leaked via internet chat forums. (Thanks to Charlie, brightswift, and Nathan for the tip!) The Leftlane Perspective: The muscular design cues look considerably more handsome on the Avenger than the Sebring. What’s more, the car also doesn’t look like a carbon copy of its Chrysler sibling — at least at first glance. As always, reducing the obviousness of badge engineering is a good thing. Gallery after the jump…

Overall, pretty good. I’d black out the grill and wheels and reduce the height of the rear bumper to make it seem wider. On a scale of 1 – 10, it gets a 7. I wonder if they’ll make a coupe and/or convertible. If DCX can give it decent handling and power at a good price, they’ll have another winner.

I’m going to have to see this in person. It looks like they tried to combine the essential square lines of the big LX cars with the conventional roundness of the usual midsized suspects. Looks too tall to my eyes also, the coupe version will look better but I think the Sebring will be more desirable.

It may be polarizing for some, but it is certainly not compelling. Why should I buy this over a Sonata, Camry, Accord, Altima, Aura, Fusion, etc? With nostalgic retro looks, and a sub-par interior, the Avenger will not stand out in a sea of sedans that continue to raise the bar in terms of innovation, technology, and refinement. I only see die-hard Dodge fans and value shoppers looking at this car. It definitely will not steal sales from rival competitors.

Aahhh man, dey dun fuzzed-dididit-up. Really, they were better off putting the caliber front end on this body. Same width and length as this car, but with the caliber fenders. And the same cut at the beginning of the a-pillars as the caliber. It will sell. But just not too fast. And definitely not as fast as if they had did what I mentioned in the latter part of this comment!

Also they really need some hotter looking headlights on both the Caliber and this thing. Like I said, that rear, with the caliber fenders (and cut at the a-pillar), BUT, with some hot looking headlights. If someone who reads this can, or knows someone who can; create a computerized image of the Caliber front, on the 2nd photo in this blog w/ some hotter looking headlights. Even the Charger headlights.

Hey…this ain’t half bad. Much better than the Sebring for sure…I think it’ll find it’s way into a few garages. At least until that “macho” look Dodge is pushing goes out of style in a few years. It even has better door handles than the circa 1980s Ford Tempo type on the Charger. Thats one of the biggest reasons I wouldn’t buy a Charger…they are absolutely cheap looking and no one is using them anymore for a reason.

Better than the Sebring sister car but the C pillar with the rear fender bulge just doesn’t cut it. DCX designers should know a terms like “design overkill” and “trying too hard to be retro” which obviously doesn’t work here. Maybe if this car is a hatch, maybe it will work. Looks like the best front drive compact affordable family car will be the Saturn Aura.

I expected more from DCX. The Sebring was so-so, but that is Chrysler and aimed at moms. The Avenger needed to be similar in character to the Challenger- a striking car that glued your eyes to it. This is not it. And if you add to the mix that the next Mitsubishi Lancer- same car platform- will be extraordinary, I think DCX wasted their money on this one.

I, as a current generation Dodge Avenger owner, must say that I’m very disappointed. What happened? I expected a seriously looking car, but this is just retarded. At the very least they could have been more creative and left out the Dodge Charger C-Pillar. I won’t complain about the number of doors, because I’m sure a coupe will follow shortly.

And is it just me, or does is seem like Dodge has been throwing their cross-hair grille on as an after thought on their new vehicles. If you’re gonna put it on, atleast design it into the vehicle so it looks like it belongs there.

It is better than Sebring and Caliber, but thats about all you can say. The rear window line clashes with the kink in the door. Front end much better resolved than Caliber. Hmmm me thinks my money gets spent elsewhere. looking forward to 1952 MG TDs defense of it.

Has a corporate look to it that is instantly recognizable. It works, call it “Charger-lite”. Can’t be nearly as bad as other cars in this class i.e. Malibu or Pontiac G6 but if history is any indication, it won’t take much of a bite out of your typical Camcord market.
