2007 Volvo S60

05/02/2006, 9:50 AM

By admin

Volvo has updated its S60 sedan for the 2007 model year. Changes include new front and rear spoilers, updated bumpers and skirts, a new grille, an updated interior, watch-like instruments, a new turn signal system, indicators on the mirrors, new color options, and new wheel choices. The car is also being offered with optional adaptive headlights that swivel in turns. Photos and info after the jump…

The front spoiler has been redesigned to get a more pronounced and protruding contour at the bottom. On optional variants the entire front spoiler, including the sills and rear lower bumper, are colour coordinated with the car body. The boot lid can also be specified with a sporty new wing spoiler. The 2007 model also gets a new grille with a larger and more pronounced Volvo emblem.

The door mirrors now feature integrated side indicators, and the signal lever from the S40 has been carried over. It enables drivers to press lightly on the lever to have the indicator flash three times for lane changes.

Three new exterior colours – Electric Silver, Orinoco Blue and Maple Red – give increased freedom of choice, as do the three new aluminium wheels – Nodus (7×16 inches), Tucana (7.5×17 inches) and Eudora (8×18 inches).

The interior has a number of new features, including new Grid Aluminium metal decor panels. These panels are optional and have been designed to create a more three-dimensional impression and tactile feeling. On the column stalks, the air intake controls and the steering wheel, aluminium bright work has been added. The bright work is also included on the new three-spoke sports steering wheel in perforated leather (option).

To further enhance the sporty tone, the instrument panel can be optionally specified with the same type of watch-like instruments introduced in the new Volvo S80. Another new option is the interior rear-view mirror with built-in compass.

The range of upholstery has been renewed with a sporty leather upholstery option in two contrasting shades and textures topped with contrasting stitching.

The standard chassis has been further developed in a number of areas. Firmer shock absorbers and springs front and rear increase the car’s torsional rigidity by about 25 percent. The anti-roll bars are also sturdier than before and the bushes are solid, which together promote a harmonious balance between reassuring road manners and supple ride comfort.

The 2007 S60 can also optionally be equipped with Active Bi-Xenon Light — swiveling headlight beams that follow the curve of the road. A mini-processor is used to measure and analyse a number of parameters and optimise the beam pattern accordingly. The headlight beams can be turned up to 15 degrees in either direction, and can thus illuminate a longer stretch of road even in curves.

It’s called a space ball. Just something different than a leather boot or accordian rubber on a manual.

I’ve always liked the S60. It’s like an uber sleeper alternative to the A4 and 3 series. These changes look good, but what I really want to see is a complete redesign. Volvo designers seem to have some of the best designers on the market. They “get” Volvo… as opposed to whats going on over at Saab. Anyhoo, good job Volvo.

Are you talking about th 93? The 95 is not good, but the 9000 has always been ugly, so it’s keeping with heritage, the other Saab models are GM’s “brilliant” marketing ideas. The 93 is a pretty solid evolution of the previous model, just as a sedan instead of a hatchback because no one wants hatch backs in the american market.

The S60 doesn’t look any different, they should have pushed it more, but it still is one of the nicest (and most copied) designs on the market, it was truly innovative and will go down as an icon. They have boxed themselves in with their own success.

Yikes! That interior is awful. And this is the same company that made the S40’s interior? Christ… Im looking really hard and aside from the “different” headlight, I really cant tell any difference whatsoever from the previous model.

And this is how much?

I like!

I think they do need a new, redesigned S60 but yeah, for now, this will do. The interior is beautiful!

Does any one know when it will be up for sale? I am ending my 2002 S60AWD lease soon…would be glad to have 3.2 I6 on this one…….I agree with # 5 though….2005-2006 models didn’t look that much better, maybe worse, than 2002…almost no curves left from 2002.

Why is there a male symbol sign on the steering wheel? is this how volvo is trying to make their cars more “masculine”? lol

vdub – that’s the symbol for Fe (iron).

not exactly sure what some of you are on about – the s60 really hasn’t been propery resdesigned since its release in 2001.

highly doubt the new I6 will find its way into the s60 – they’ll probably keep the I5 turbos on the s60 and save the I6 for the more upmarket s80 and xc90.

It took a while, but the newest Volvo style has grown on me. It just looks elegant. I hope some of you agree. Amongst the other companies, we have:

Cadillacs (I’m a hater) have that Back to the future HIDEOUS styling

Lincoln, well Ford in general is not trying enough or just trying too hard. Think, the bland 500, then think about all 298 versions of the Mustang. Lincoln lacked any real ‘new’ design.

BMW’s performance team and design team need to go to couples counseling. 4 liter, 400 HP V8. 5 liter, 500 HP V10… body styling that looks like it was ordered from Santa’s sweat shop (… the one in the SOUTH pole) last Winter.

Audi is like BMW’s shadow. It’s behind you for the most part, but sleep on it for 6 hours, and you’ll be chasing it, wondering how in the hell it got ahead of you so quickly. 4.2 liter, 420HP 4WD RS4? Hmmm, M Thr–what? I hear the RS6 is getting a V10… yeah, that’s what I though too.

Mercedes just doesn’t care anymore. They stopped a while ago. Other car manufacturers (aside from American) look for engine efficiency. Mercedes will put a big ass engine and a big ass turbo charger in ALL of their cars, and still come out on the lower end of high performance. As for design, they’re kind of an acquired taste.

Chrysler has everyone waiting. How do you push out that beautiful 300C, then… …

still waiting. Chrysler needs to take notes from itself. 96ish was a great time for them. The Concorde, Sebring, PT, Prowler (what ever happened…) proved to be a very nice lineup all around.

Which brings me to Nissan which has been doing a hell of a job. 2005 was their year, hands down. Infiniti. Well, EVERY car that is under the Infiniti label is gorgeous, and performs as well as it looks. The G35 coupe is the sexiest car on the planet, next to Ferrari’s F430, of course. I’ll even say next to the 360. And we ALL drool over the upcoming GTR.

I digress

Sleeping under all of the other car companies throughout all these years has been Volvo. They took their 93 styling, sanded the edges, dropped a digit and added an ‘S’, and POOF. Brand new style. Took that same piece of sand paper, ground down the contour of the 2000 S80, POOF. Brand new style. I said all that to say, I LIKE THE NEW S60. The overall design exhibits elegance and performance (what’s under the hood may be a different story). The car looks powerful. I can’t wait until the S60 R comes out. That will be suuhweeet! Not to mention Evolve’s rendition of the new S60. If it looks anything like this, I’ll be completely satisfied.

And that, is the point.

I just bought one….I think that Volvo has perfected the design. Get one before the line is deleted next year. I was able to get in at 2006 prices. There is a package offered to military called the “performance package” to close out the 2006 model year. Well, they sold out so they had to give me a 2007 at the same price. I got the 2.5T FWD w/ Premium, Climate, and Sport for 30.155 USD. Includes delivery.

Please help me decide between Silver w/ Black Interior, or Black w/ Tan Interior.
