The global auto industry is full of obscure manufacturers who build a small series of sports cars and/or super cars.
One of those is Falcon Motor Sports. The Michigan-based company made a name for itself in the sports car world by building body panels, hardtops and structural components for the Dodge Viper and the Plymouth Prowler.
Several years ago, Falcon decided to try its hand at designing a sports car from the ground up. The end result was a concept called the Mach7 that was revealed at the 2011 Detroit auto show.
A year later, Falcon is back at the Detroit show to display the production version of the Mach7, dubbed the F7.
Falcon applied its expertise in components-building to design the F7′s aluminum monocoque chassis and carbon fiber body. Thanks to the use of these lightweight materials, the car tips the scales at just 2,785 pounds.
The F7 is powered by a Corvette-sourced V8 engine with a displacement of 427 cubic inches. It is rated at 620 horsepower and 585 lb-ft of torque, enough to propel the car from zero to 60 in approximately 3.4 seconds. Top speed is reached at 195 miles per hour.
Six-piston calipers in the front and four-piston calipers in the rear slow the F7 from 60 miles per hour to a dead stop in less than 100 feet.
The car’s interior boasts a retro look with two adjustable gauge pods that are planted above the steering wheel. It features a Garmin GPS, an iPod docking station, and a Bluetooth connectivity system.
The first Falcon F7s will be delivered at the end of 2012 and will carry a base price of about $225,000. The list of options includes ABS brakes and a hydraulic lift system that increases the front of the car’s ground clearance by three inches in order to clear curbs and other obstacles in the road.
