Ferrari 599 Fiorano caught during commercial shoot in Las Vegas

Photographer Mike Olivella snapped some great photos from the filming of a new commercial for the 2007 Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano. The ad stars the 599 and alongside a 1990s Ferrari F40. “The 599 had a V-12, 620-horsepower engine, but it was not in the same class as the F40,” Mike Olivella continued. “Most of the spectators (the few that were there) commented that the car looked more like a Jaguar than a Ferrari, and were more enthralled by the F40 than the 599.” But everyone agreed on one thing. “The drivers were incredible. I drove the road that they filmed the cars on, and it was a very windy, up and down two-lane road. These guys really opened the cars up and to watch them negotiate the turns and the dips was something to see.” (See also: Ferrari F599 drifting photos, and the official announcement of the Ferrari 599 GTB).

If you look at the profile from the side, the front fender (A-pillar forward), flowing lines resemble the newest Corvette. If you look at the lines, again on body panel (B-Pillar and back), it resembles the last generation Toyota Supra. It may resemble a Z4 from a specific angle. Design is not worthy of a Ferrari Badge, IMHO.

At first, I thought it was a very pretty car…

Until I noticed how the C pillar actually splits and becomes a sort of air duct. That is just about the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen on a car.

I’ve noticed that seperation of the C pillars. It’s as beautiful as a Dodge since they have built something just like it in the early 90’s on the Twin turbo AWD Stealth.

Okay so this is 3 strikes for me and Ferrari. I didn’t like the Enzo. I don’t like the 612. Now we have a Corvette look alike. Apparently the people who run the Geneva Motor Show website agree with me because if you go to the photo gallery and select Ferrari, several pictures come up of the 599. If you select one of the photos you’ll soon realize the car in the photo is in fact a Corvette. I’m not sure if this is a joke or an honest mistake. None the less I would get your butts over to that site before they take the pic down. I’m disappointed most with the lack of double taillights at the back. That to me has been a Ferrari trademark for years. I’m so disappointed with Ferrari right now. Keep in mind this is just my opinion

This wasn’t a commercial. It was a shoot for a promotional short to be shown only to select customers.. and it is not a $200,000 car. Try $1.3 million.. I was there, I worked on the commercial.

The way the c-pillar turns into that air duct..Yeah, Greg K…It’s just downright beautiful! And it’s got so many details like that and it’s much more complex than you’d might find at first sight. A great car.

And like so many othersI don’t really like the 612, but who cares, I wasn’t going to buy one anyway…The F40, on the other hand, is a great car…Epic!

Mike Hershey: Tell more about the “not-a-commercial”? Please?
