Ferrari 599XX: Photo Update

04/26/2009, 2:30 AM

By Nick Aziz

Ferrari has released a handful of new photos depicting its recently-unveiled 599XX. The ultra-high-performance version of the 599 Fiorano was first shown at the Geneva Motor Show in early March. Much like the Enzo-based FXX, the 599XX is a track-only car, “aimed at a select group of clients” — in other words, current Ferrari owners only.

Ferrari calls the 599XX a “technological laboratory”, and it definitely looks the part in person. The standard front end of the 599 has been replaced with an aggressive front fascia, complete with a downforce-generating splitter. More wings and splitters are located on the rear end of the 599XX, with enough aerodynamics to create 630 kg of downforce at 185 mph.

Underhood, the 599XX uses a modified 6.0L V12 – cranking out 700 horsepower and capable of revving to 9,000 rpms. That power is put to the tarmac via unique black wheels, shod in racing tires. Carbon ceramic disc brakes are charged with slowing the 599XX.

Ferrari failed to release pricing for the 599XX, but expect pricing to match the car’s exclusivity.

Over 100HP per Litre, from a N/A 6.0L is impressive. But then again, it is for track only… would fail all kinds of emissions. So not a fair comparison to anything “on the road”… but impressive none the less.

N/A engines with over 100hp per liter on street legal cars are being used by Ferrari, Porsche , BMW for quite a while.

Over 100 hp/l naturally aspirated? That’s pretty impressive. But isn’t the 599 a bit large to make a track car out of?

I’ve always been impressed by the S2000’s ability to put down 120hp/liter without forced induction. Of course, an S2000 is no 599xx.

Cool car, but it seems kinda silly to shell out this kind of coin and then only be able to store and drive your car at Fiorano. Then again, the Ferrari mystique lets the company get away with things that no other manufacturer can replicate.

cool car, and of course there is only a handful of brands that name launch something like this given the economic times. If I had more money than i knew what to do with, I would bite. Given my real economic condition, I would have to settle for significantly more modest means of entertainment (and transportation)

@ nickkop i think the 1994 Ferrari F355 was the first car with more than 100hp/l N/A in a street car,108 hp/l. the NSX had 91.22 hp/l but didn’t cross the 100hp/l mark.
