Ferrari considering Indian expansion

04/01/2008, 5:05 PM

By Drew Johnson

On February 25th, Ferrari kicked off its Magic India Discovery. The event will continue until May 8th and will see two Ferrari 612 Scagliettis cover over 7,000 Indian miles. But in addition to proving the durability of the cars, the event has also shed some light on Ferrari’s future plans.

Gabriele Lalli, head of Ferrari’s promotional Magic India Discovery tour, revealed to The Economic Times during the event that “Ferrari is looking at India and may enter the country by 2010.”

Interestingly enough, Ferrari may look to Tata Motors to help it establish a sales and marketing network within India. Fiat, which owns an 85 percent stake in Ferrari, already runs a joint venture with Tata in India. Moreover, it is rumored that Tata is interested in acquiring a stake in Ferrari.

Whatever the case, it appears that times are good for the Prancing Horse as the Italian marque is already expanding into Japan and has a waiting list at least two years long for any of its vehicles.

To be completely accurate, Fiat owns a controlling interest in Ferrari. Which means that no one can out vote them, which means they own Ferrari.

Look at it this way. Luca di Montezemolo is the president of Ferrari, but he’s also the chairman of Fiat. Need I say more. What Fiat says, is what Ferrari does. And as long as it’s mostly owned by Italians, I don’t have much of a problem with it. But Tata? It’s bad enough they bought Jaguar and Land Rover. I don’t want to see a bunch of gold Ferrari’s. Just look at Force India in F1. Tacky.

Would you guys rather prefer Cerberus taking a stake in Ferrari?? Seeing that Fiat pretty much owns Ferrari here even if Tata purchased a stake in Ferrari I highly doubt that it would be a large %, It would be mostly for capital gains for Tata. I personally don’t see a problem with Tata looking to make a capital investment.

I see a problem with it SS4LIFE because Tata is an Indian company. And India is a dirty overpopulated place that needs to focus on getting its population down instead of trying to buy up every well established foreign company (especially British ones) because it is mad at the fact that Britain enslaved them for a few hundred years. Get over it, and stay away from Western companies. But do cooperate with the US on things such as bringing the commie bastards known as China down (which is another dirty overpopulated country)

Tata has the seat on the board of directors at FIAT, which means Ferrari. He drives Ferrari (or driven in it). Apparently he was instrumental in FIAT renaissance and Italians do not forget good deeds. Don’t forget that GM in 2002 paid 2 billion USDs NOT to own FIAT/Ferrari. on Forbes 400 zillionaires list tons of Indians. I am not fan of curry, but reality is that Indians are very determined to turn their economy and personal fortunes around. Get used to them driving Ferrari (and still smell like donkey ****).

Well well Commodore, you have a better suggestion? Tata has enough money to buy off your family and put your father in a gimp suit while your mom puts on a donkey show for him. I’m sure he knows what he’s doing. He’s not a stupid man; this is diametrically opposed to your dumb ass, which probably gets cluster****ed everytime you have to file a tax return. This is why you mop the floors at a peepshow, and he runs a multinational conglomerate. See how the real world works?

Why the f*ck is everyone getting so excited about who owns what chunk of Ferrari? Remember your history people, specifically what has happened to all the great marques of the past, exotic or otherwise, that chose to remain independent. Either they have entered partnerships with much larger entities with significant cash flow or… they have f*cking died. I couldn’t care less if the Klingons had a stake because even they wouldn’t have the guile to mess with such a legend.

U r such a ludicrous man that u cant accept truth as it is. Ur comments are a real scut work out here. Stop ****ting like this and let business happen in its own fashion. And, why the hell do u worry about TATA having a stake in Ferrari as if u hold a stake in it. My dear friend, don vent out all ur animosity now itself for there would be a lot more acquisitions in the future like this. cheers :)

TATA has created a new segment in the world automobile Industry by TATA NANO. Thats the capacity of TATA and thats how world recognizes them. And Commodore, you will soon find pleanty of TATA cars around you to appreciate their great work. Till then hold on to your ****. When they are able to build up all features and safety in a car at just 2500 USD, maintaining the standards of Ferrari is just gonna be a cake walk for them at such a huge cost. Cost cutting without compromising on quality and safety is more difficult than building up safety for money. There will be more acquisitions to keep you ****ting. Keep enjoying :)

TATA NANO is **** on the small wheels.
On the motorshow TATA didnt let anybody even to touch it because it could fall apart.

for the same money I would take used Audi, BMW, Merc etc. anytime. Even after 15 years they will be better to drive, more reliable, more comfortable, will have gadgets etc.

They can sell this cheap NANO to cheap indians. Nobody else will buy it.

Everything Tata touches turns to gold… figuratively.

Corus group being bought by Tata Steel means they were SAVED.
Employees thank them and couldn’t be more pleased with the acquisition…

If you don’t believe me about Tata’s integrity and acumen then see what praise the NY Times lays upon the company:

Also I’d rather have my 18 year old used BMW than the Tata Nano… I don’t make any claims as to what would be “better” in terms of reliability etc – mine needs a new clutch, has leaky injectors and a messed up spark plug, plus needs alignment I think and just had to brush and reseal the rim as tyre was deflating to 6psi…

As it stands, 18 year old BMWs will rust and fall apart, but I’d rather have it than a brand new Nano… or a brand new BMW… or a brand new Merc… in fact, most new cars… It’s RWD, it’s small and light and fun… E30 FTW.

DeansterTJ: try history lesson or read a book. Rome rules the world for thousand years; school of art took its beginning in Italy not to mention great food. Italian boys live with their parents because they are nurtured and love their parents and know something you don’t: love thy parent. After they live the house they become very good parents and fathers. Capice? no way, you putz.

Did some checking on Tata. It is the worlds ONLY Conglomerate where ALL the annual profits go into charitable trusts and public works. That’s quite opposed to our American BASTARD way of giving dogs like NYSE-Dick Grasso $150 million for running things into the ground. I suspect WE are the ones in danger of becoming the DInosaurs (if we haven’t already).

I must say, while doing business with most Indians is a pain in the ass, mostly due to their persistent negotiations, Tata does have some high respect among the conglomerates. I suggest you guys to actually learn how to become successful like them instead of putting them down due to jealousy or racism.

Well I’m Indian, but British by birth and damn proud to be, but I can’t stand Indian call centres… too scripted and such… There’s no room for negotiations even when sorting out your phone contract/upgrade with Three, but T-mobile having northern people on the phones usually is a bit easier ;)
