Despite past denials from Ferrari about a future version of the Dino, our spy photographers are convinced they have captured the first images of a Dino mule making its laps. Based on the 599 body, the mule isn’t giving us too much yet.
While the original Dino, built between 1968 and 1976, was powered by a V6, it is believed the new car will be powered by a 400 horsepower V8. A coupe is expected to bow first with a spider following soon after. Pininfarina is said to be in charge of design.
As the story goes, the Dino will slot below the F430 and Ferrari could sell a many as 4,000 annually, doubling yearly production for the brand.
Conflicting reports
In 2006, Ferrari Deputy Managing Director Amedo Felisa said the idea for a new Dino had been shelved. In April of that year, Ferrari CEO Luca Cordero di Montezemolo also denied plans for a new, cheaper model.
But countless European auto publications continue to cite well-placed sources who claim the Dino will rise again. Most recently, Germany’s AutoZeitung said a concept version would show up at the Frankfurt auto show in September of this year. Are automotive writers and spy photographers letting their imaginations run wild; or is Ferrari getting ready to surprise us all? Only time will tell…
