Our spy photographers were able to capture the first images of the forthcoming Ferrari F450 earlier this month, but the images left a little to be desired. As such, we handed the photos over to our expert artists – and the results give us our clearest look yet at the F450.
Boasting over 500 horsepower, the F450 is rumored to have a higher power output than the 520-hp F430 Scuderia. Ferrari will use the same double-clutch gearbox from the California for the F450 to double-up with the envisaged 4.5-liter V8. How the global financial difficulty has affected the scarlet marque will be seen in the F450 through possible technologies like a road car version of KERS (Kinetic Energy Recovery Systems).
The F450 will take some styling cues from the recently unveiled California, but will feature an overall more curvaceous body. Short front and rear overhangs will give the F450 a planted look with sculpted body lines give the car a sense of motion when even at a standstill.
Ferrari has apparently code-named the car F142 and it is expected to make its first public showing at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2009. Deliveries would then commence just over a year from now.

Looks well proportioned: Sleek and very low. Headlights open to debate. Now let’s see the final production car.

If it runs as good as it looks, I may become a Ferrari fan again.
That aside. It’s a lovely car.

I hope that doesn’t mean the rear end, thats horrible.

The KERS system would be an interesting technical piece to one-up (at least temporarily) the competition. Anyone who watched the season opening F1 race this past weekend probably heard a lot of debate as to whether it was actually worth the extra weight penalty it imposed. Still, it would be kind of neat to be able to hit a switch and suddenly have that extra push at your command.

That is sex on wheels.
Johnnycanuck: I did see that race, and it was spectacular. My understanding is that the FIA’s ratio of KERS power to weight is somewhat contrived, in order to balance the playing field for those teams that don’t have the resources or desire to develop a KERS system. The commentary seemed to suggest that KERS could provide a lot more power.
I think the weight of KERS in a road car would also be much less noticeable than in an ultra-pared-down F1 racer. It would be like a built in nitrous boost, and also allow ferrari to incorporate hybrid or electric technologies in a way that wouldn’t piss off petrol-heads. Maybe they’ll make it an option.

Could be better
Not as attractive as the California from that angle
A-Pillar is off, beltline is too low in the front

One last note: I’m not an engineer, but I suspect it might be difficult to produce anything close to the power boosts that exist in F1. Real-world braking is exponentially less than in formula 1, which would seem to make it hard to recover the same amount of kinetic energy.

I don’t feel it Ferrari enough, it looks more like a new brand EV vehicle that reaches 100 mph.
Dunno but I have to pass twice in a row, no California, no F450 (I know it’s a illustration yet).

I see a lot of the R8 base they use for the Illustration, Front window arch, wheels, Roof line etc.

This is the direction Ferrari needs to go. Those curvaceous lines are getting me a bit excited
This reminds me of the cars they had in the 60’s, nice curves. I hope it looks like this, I will definitely be a bigger Ferrari fan. It is a bit reminiscent of the McLaren F1 as well…

Brilliant photoshopping but like some comments mentioned, it looks too clean in its execution.
Nonetheless, the final car whether its a 450 or enzo replacement otherwise will at least be a significant departure in terms of design from the 360, 430 which to be honest is a half cut boot design and ugly if I may say compared to Ferraris of old.
I like how Ferrari has decided to put a proper ‘rump’ in the rear portion and I hope they don’t muck up the final detailing like they did with the California to prevent it from looking better than its more expensive cars when it could be.

Please tell me it doesn’t have the horrible new monocle taillights we’ve seen in the last few releases. They alone ruin an otherwise beautiful design. Or the stacked exhaust pipes of the California — blech!
