There is no doubt that the Ferrari 458 Italia is hot, but the Italian automaker is looking into whether the sports car is a little too hot. Following several 458 vehicle fires, Ferrari is investigating its latest model for a possible safety defect.

Several images of flame-ravaged 458s have hit the internet over the past several weeks, prompting Ferrari to officially look into the matter. No word on what might be causing the fires, but Ferrari says it is taking the situation very seriously.

“The company is currently investigating the particular incidents in which cars have apparently been involved in a vehicle fire, and it is currently treating these as separate incidents,†Ferrari said in a statement.

It remains to be seen if government agencies such as the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration will get involved, but we have a feeling we haven’t heard the last word on the tale of the flame-broiled 458s.
