Oh and the hood was crazy too. It was like this superlight almost flimsy plastic composite that like actually had latches on it.

hey jjt, you didn’t happen to look under the car did you? Pretty much all of it is completely covered by a black light weight composite cover to improve the aerodynamics. It kinda reminded me of like a hot wheels car or something.

I think the supply of carbon-ceramic trees are already dwindling, $10k for the option I think is low. Don’t the ceramics on the 599 cost over $18k? and the Lambo option I think is similar. Maybe you can get carbon ceramics on a 911 for around $10k, but that might be it.

The others are right, josh, no loss of profit here, Ferrari will just be upping the sticker prices (which don’t mean much anyway) to compensate. More power to them.

Next on Ferrari’s list of options-to-make-standard is the F1 transmission. Something like 9 out of 10 Ferraris already have the F1 transmission. I’m sure there are some Ferraristi who love shifting for themselves, but Ferrari invests so heavily into and they’re so proud of the transmission (and rightfully so), that pretty soon, a Ferrari won’t be seen as a real Ferrari unless it has one.

Yeah considering the cost of these things now I’m wondering if the Corvette engineering team made the right decision in making ceramic disk brakes standard on the new ZR-1. But hey if they want to compete and perform with the likes of Ferraris…. When in Rome…

That’s true. In the grand scheme of things when it comes to Ferrari’s prices, $10k brakes are rather proportionate.

Well that’s very nice of Ferrari, I wonder if it’s going to jack up the price of a Ferrari by 10k now. Ceramic brakes are nice. They offer superior stopping power, no brake fade, and they look really cool when they are hot, gotta love that glow. But yeah if you want to spend about two cobalts in replacing your ceramic disks then I guess having it on a Ferrari is for you. But I guess if you have the money to afford a Ferrari then 10k-20k in replacing your discs won’t be a problem.

NO!! Bad Ferrari!! Think of all the lost revenue you could have made by keeping it as an option.
Still, sacrifice a $10,000 option to lure another buyer…could work.

Ever since driving an SLR at Pocono Raceway, I’ve found that stopping power is just as thrilling as acceleration… mmmmmmm ceramic brakes [\drool]

…nevermind the $30k price tag to replace ‘em, though; SLR front rotors are $12k/each and $3500 for a set of pads. I’m sure Ferrari’s will be superior and cheaper.

ceramic brakes…very nice touch. i like the way they would glow on the mc-merc slr under hard breaking
