Ferrari North America recently issued a recall letter that affects 366 examples of its 612 Scaglietti models built between 2005 and 2007 and equipped with the F1 semi-automatic transmission. A clutch sensor was found to malfunction in certain examples, making gear changes difficult.
The clutch sensor could overheat under normal operating conditions, making gear changes difficult in early stages, and possibly making the vehicle stuck in gear. A sudden lock-up of the transmission while in gear could also result in a potential crash, making this a safety recall. The exotic automaker advises the vehicle’s on board systems can detect the fault and light up a dash light.
Owners of the potentially affected cars are urged to contact Ferrari , which will send them to the appropriate dealer where the clutch sensors, cable holder and magnet will be replaced free of charge. The recall went into effect on May 19.
