G, Ferrari make their coins not only selling cars, but also advertising space on their F1 program. They also do consulting and design work. Their engines power Maserati and Alfa C8 and those are not charitable contributions. Even hats and jackets with Ferrari logo worn by schmacks who cant afford wheels of their cars are source of profit. Ferrari is not Ferrari because of their cars only, they are marketing machine as well.

699 Ferraris sold? … Something’s not adding up …

Assuming the average revenue per car is $500,000, that would add up to $350 million. Now I’m sure they have other sources of income, but those probably don’t even cover the costs of their operation. (and taxes, for that matter)

But for the moment let’s assume they have a net operating income of $350 million, which is very likely an overestimation. That would barely cover the cost of their F1 program, which I’ve heard and read has run them $250-300 million a season. (might have dropped in the past season or two b/c of the new “cost-saving” regulations, but still…)

How the hell can they run their business this way? …

Work of art? My ass is more of a work of art than any current/upcoming ferrari. Modern ferraris are pretty ugly, but then again so are the vettes. The only really good-looking modern sportscar is/will be the Alfa 8C Competizione. Aston’s are okay looking, though.

Absolutely HILARIOUS that some of you find it in your hearts to somehow, someway try and compare this Ferrari news to that of a Corvette. Let’s see; both are sports cars, so they have to be similar right?

No one freakin’ buys a Ferrari for it’s hp per $ ratio. That’s fantastic that a Z06 can keep up with an F430, let’s see how many owners cross-shop the two. What’s even more funny is how the ZR-1 is being compared to it, when a ZR-1 hasn’t even been given a formal numbers test yet. I’m sure the numbers will be staggering, and even at close to 6 figures it’s STILL a good value… but you won’t find one lone person on a two year waiting list for a Corvette. If you do find that person, give me his e-mail address so I can send him pictures of myself pointing and laughing at his expense.

Damn, that probably makes me sound like a Vette-hater when that couldn’t be further from the truth.

Veda, I agree with you on quality produced by robots. As a matter of fact Civic quality will always be better then RL quality, because robots programmed for Civic development will be tested and retested: the cost of screw-up measured in billions of dollars. For low volume RL (Lexus, Infinity) personal service and 10K premium over the cost of the vehicle will cure most of ills. Ferrari is a different animal of all named above: they are automotive work of art and therefore command higher price. Once in a while you a get a “run” on older Ferraris and the price skyrockets (I think it was in early ’90s). As work of art those cars are not driven to office Monday morning.
Also, not all Europeans who buy Ferrari’s are involved in morally indignant activities: a lot of them were born into wealth (like Hilton for our comprehension). London has tax code which attracts shabby and legit businesspeople from around the world. My point was that luxury items bought in London are not purchased by drunken limies.

Self gratifications comes in many ways: for some it is brand new Ferrari for some their own flesh (as stated on this forum ).
On the same topic how many born in UK Brits are buying Ferrari in London? London is a Mecca for wealthy individuals due to unique tax structure. A lot of oil princes from all over the globe live in London (international gun traders, drug brokers and other ‘cream’ of society)
