Fiat has unveiled a hotter version of its 2008 Car of the Year winner — the 500 — in anticipation of its Paris Motor Show. Dubbed the 500 Abarth SS, the latest edition of the 500 is headed to production and will hit the European market in November. The unveiling of the SS model (esseesse in Fiat talk) was preceded by the Geneva debut of the 500 Abarth, which features a 135 horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder.
The SS model will boost the Fiat 500 Abarth’s output to 160 horsepower, and will also add other performance and visual upgrades — such as dual exhaust, unique Abarth badging, upgraded suspension and brakes and a sportier interior design.
The 500′s SS kit is similar to the one offered on the Grande Punto Abarth, and will be available right off the dealer showroom. Fiat 500 Abarth owners will be able to upgrade to the SS package up to a year — or 20,000km — after the vehicle’s original purchase.
