Paris preview: Fiat 500 Abarth SS

Fiat has unveiled a hotter version of its 2008 Car of the Year winner — the 500 — in anticipation of its Paris Motor Show. Dubbed the 500 Abarth SS, the latest edition of the 500 is headed to production and will hit the European market in November. The unveiling of the SS model (esseesse in Fiat talk) was preceded by the Geneva debut of the 500 Abarth, which features a 135 horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder.

The SS model will boost the Fiat 500 Abarth’s output to 160 horsepower, and will also add other performance and visual upgrades — such as dual exhaust, unique Abarth badging, upgraded suspension and brakes and a sportier interior design.

The 500’s SS kit is similar to the one offered on the Grande Punto Abarth, and will be available right off the dealer showroom. Fiat 500 Abarth owners will be able to upgrade to the SS package up to a year — or 20,000km — after the vehicle’s original purchase.

Check back for more details and live pictures after the 500 Abarth SS’ unveiling in a little over a week.

That is one sweet looking little pocket rocket… bump the power to 200 and then they’ll really have something.

I dunno RaineMan, paint it brown with some white stripes and laces and I’d be inclined to kick a field goal.

Got Handling?

howsmydriving… surely that should be “Toni”.

In seriousness they aren’t any worse than a Renault, Ford or Peugeot, but if your dealer network is patchy then you should be concerned.

You get an extra set of wheels in a box? And some springs? Cool!

I’m loving this interior, though. Funky and original, yet it looks like fun.

Is that Toni driving, though? That must be him bringing it to you… …again…

I’ll fix it myself. It would be a fun learning experience.
