The Fiat 500 is one of those iconic cars that defined a nation’s motoring heritage, like the Ford Model T or the VW Beatle. Unfortunately it never caught on in the US, so most Americans won’t know the significance of this car. That’s a shame because most people here will judge this car against what Fiat degrade to in the 1970s.
Looking at that dashboard make me nostalgic for my Grandfather’s old 600, that was in the family for 45 years…

If that’s your main criterion for buying a new car you’ve just proven the value of all your other opinions.

Deanster, based on your other “thoughtful” comments littered around this site I am shocked you would feel safe in a car of this size. Oh wait! It’s italian and will cost a lot for what you get. But most importantly it’s not an American make so your safety is obviously assured.

I’m pretty sure this thing is anything but “cute”. Everything about it is awesome (especially the interior) except that design. Not so much the design as much as the shape. Ugly shape.

Cool, THIS is exciting stuff in the auto world, not Ferrari’s latest Stradale or some new droptop RR.

With oil creeping up by the week, everyone should get used to minicars like this. In 10 years, the way this is going, the US will be populated by this type of car.

wouldn’t try to shut down the Fit. tuners such as Spoon and Skunk2 have been doing some wonderful things with that car, and it can sure as hell throwdown. just ask this one guys 400hp 350z how well it did on the track compared to a Spoon tuned Fit. it was laughable.

It’s a beautiful little thing. They’d sell like crazy in the US — where the MINI singlehandedly created the market for premium minicars that command good profit margin.

People calling it a “misshapen New Beetle,” etc. do not comprehend the Cinquecento brand heritage.

O! Fiat 500! Yeah, that’s original from the outside!
The inside is nice though, if you don’t mind being cramped. Lots of colorful gadgets and designs on the inside. But it still looks like a dork’s car, and I could probably out-run the car on foot with those engine choices!

Sweet!! And loaded with gadgets in a cheap, small car! New 2008 Ford Focus is close second with new Microsoft Sync option. Rest of compact cars don’t even compare!!
