I am not American. I am not a fan of biscuit tins (where this bird-beaked mess can be correctly categorized). I am not fond of truck engines. I am not biased towards Dodge vehicles. Nor am I anti-Alfa (despite the horrific beakified front end). I do not think the Caliber is acceptable in form or function. all FACTS.

But you have no OBJECTIVE taste in vehicle design. The front ends of Alfas, with those “worse-than-Chinese” bird beaks, are design failures. The Dodge crosshair grill is OBJECTIVELY a better design that Alfa would be wise to incorporate not only in North America but worldwide. Finally, your posts are worthless.

Again, I only post OBJECTIVE FACTS here.

I hope they understand the European and American definition of muscle car don’t quite line up.

On one hand, this could result in some good vehicles on shared platforms. On the other, Euro arrogance could come into play and it could result in Dodge’s lineup being dominated by overpriced, unpowered hatches.

This is the most idiotic idea that I ever heard of. Alfa Romeos have a unique feel to them, and have been kept afloat for the last few decades by a passionate fan base that appreciates that feel. If their stunning looks and handling become mongrelized by interbreeding with some American muscle-car truck with the poise and grace of a garbage can, then I’ll be taking my business elsewhere. If I wanted a Dodge I’d buy one.

I just hope that this is the beginning, i would like to see more otions to have diesel engines and not only gas engines, all the cars makers that sell cars in europe have a big selection of diesel engines, and some of theme are better than the gas engine. They are economical, faster, less pollutant.

This sounds completely ridiculous. Fiat cannot compete against European brands with a Dodge. The few of us that want and are waiting for a new Alfa want a new Alfa. My Alfa has gotten very old and I’ve been waiting a long time for a new one. If they have a Dodge grill I’m getting a GTI.

Zoomy, an Avenger-based Alfa could cost 20k, only if it is worthy 20k… A 159 that’s worhty 20k in us dollars will be a low quality driving garbage. So what’s the point? Will americans be satisfied only with the good looks? For how long? The car will be tested by the press, fail to match the high expectations and result to terrible sales.
Europeans, now, won’t accept an Alfa based at a Dodge. Even sharing platforms, something generally acceptable, could result to a car that doesn’t meet Alfa’s standars in handling. And an Alfa Romeo with mediocre handling is a big time failure.
The only way that this can be possible is by designing the future platforms taking under consideration models from both Alfa and Dodge. But this means that models with signifficant similarities are many years away.
So i believe Marcione is “testing” some ideas to see the public reaction…

I was already disappointed that Alfa was planning to dub their US-bound vehicles the Milano and Giulia instead of using their European alphanumeric monikers.. and this news is even more depressing. But I wouldn’t be opposed to buying a Dodge Avenger-badged Alfa 159 if it cost $19K!

Impulsive: to be honest I’m both a Dodge fan and Alfa Romeo, though I prefer Dodge. I think that on some cars the Crosshair is looking good(Charger is a good example) and on some its butt-ugly. Same thing goes with the Alfa, they just need to nail them right.

This WILL NOT happen. Why? Alfa’s are not volume models like Dodge, they are similiar to BMWs – higher end sporty Fiats. They can’t sell us Dodge branded cars that cost like BMW’s, just won’t work or happen. If they want to sell Alfa’s here for the current price of Dodge’s… Welll f*ck it!!! I’m all for it!

I don’t know. I guess as long as they don’t Americanize (dummy down) the handling and performance and as long as they use more Alfa styling (not the currrent quasi-truckish Dodge styling), I would be worth a look.

Disagree with the comment about Alfa and Dodge being in similar markets though. Dodge is entry level and matches Fiat. Alfa is near luxury, more like an Acura or lower end of German luxury (A4, 3-series).

That may work for a few people, 05Z88, but the majority of people who are affluent (and old) enough to buy one of these Alfa’s will likely continue to remember them for shoddy quality, just like most people remember Opel.
That said, I would be much more apt to buy an Alfa over a Dodge.

I gotta disagree with you on this one. Plenty of people associate Chrysler with ****ty, unreliable products. It’s part of the reason they’re in the mess they are in right now. So bringing in a brand which a lot of people in the US know nothing about could actually be a GOOD thing. People like being the first person on the block to have a cool new car (that’s completely different to what people are used to seeing). A bright red Alfa will get that attention.

That all being said, I’m no psychiatrist…so maybe US consumers are THAT stubborn and aren’t willing to buy from a brand they’ve never heard of…

I can tell you for certain I’d rather buy an Alfa with Alfa styling and Alfa badges instead of buying an Alfa with messed up American-Italian styling and a Dodge badge. But that’s just me…

I must agree with S2L2SC…
The only similarity these two companies have in common is their likeliness to break down. Having said that, at least the Alfa has made up for it by building some beautiful cars. An Alfa branded dodge over here in europe would be seriously detrimental to the brand
