Fiat debuts passenger-carying Fiorino

03/05/2008, 6:49 AM

By Drew Johnson

Fiat’s has unveiled the passenger version of its Fiorino cargo van at the 2008 Geneva Motor Show. The MPV variation of the Fiorino is rather compact for a van, measuring just 3.86 meters long from snout to tail, but has room to seat five comfortably.

Like the utility version, the passenger Fiorino will be motivated by one of two engines: either a 1.4L gasoline engine producing 73 horsepower or a 1.3L diesel unit good for 75 horsepower. Either engine can be mated to an automatic transmission.

The Fiorino will be built along side its sister vehicles — the Peugeot Bipper and the Citroen Nemo, although neither of those vehicles is offered in a passenger-carrying variant yet — in Turkey.

This is just ugly enough that a hairy-pitted bulldyke like LP would feel proud to drive it.

Pretty interesting and ugly, but I don’t understand for such a small entrance for the rear door, why have a sliding door?

Jay, maybe because it’s an adapted cargo van. If you’re loading a cargo van the last thing you want is a swing out door on the side getting in the way, and why redesign a door for passenger use when you can sell the existing door as a novelty.

Ricardohead- I understand what your saying, I just couldn’t help but notice the entrance is so small.

Citroen ‘Nemo’…. Hmm, I can just see Ellen DeGeneres in one of them..

The front end reminds me of the Scion xD.
