First look: 2007 Mercedes CL 63 AMG

07/24/2006, 12:19 PM

By admin

The first official image of the 2007 Mercedes CL63 AMG has surfaced online, just weeks after the debut of the 2007 CL-Class and CL AMG package. The car features the new 6.2-liter naturally aspirated AMG V8 engine. Exact power is unknown, but it will likely 515 horsepower output as the CLS 63 AMG. In addition to the CL63, Mercedes is widely expected to have a more powerful V12 CL 65 AMG in the works as well. Full image after the jump…

what the hell! don’t those Germans give a **** about our dependence on oil? Why are they contributing to our gasoline problem? Can’t they build any hybrids?

When j_way said stunning I believe he was referring to the car’s design. In my opinion, there is no “stunning” truck.

German car manufacturers are attempting to hybridize vehicles. BMW, DaimlerChrysler, and GM are working on a hybrid system as we speak.

Americans complaining about the amount displacement in a European car? Hahaha. this gets funnier every day.
at least the European cars make efficient us of it. the American equivalents just make a lot of noise with it

I’d put the price more around 150k since the current CL65AMG sells for around 185k.

I don’t really like to sound like a hater, but this car isn’t all that. The last generation CL was drop dead beautiful right out the gate. This on the other hand is a design exercise that has to grow on you. Beautiful it is, but its a little too gawdy. Mercedes Benz never had to be gawdy and use visual tricky to be handsome. True, the car will sell, because people only see the three pointed star on the middle of the grill, but answer this question. Will people buy a Hyundai at this price with this over the top look? Even though it would be a beautiful car for Hyundai, this my friends is not what I’m used to seeing in a Benzo.

6.3 liters and only 515 HP!? *sigh* Mercedes still can’t make an engine nearly as well as BMW. 1.3 liters smaller and only 15 less HP. This engine is a true testament to the Daimler Chrysler merger- the only way they can think of to build a high performance engine is displacement. I’d love to see the 5.0 V10’s HP rating if it was 6.3 liters

#13 — Alex — The 6.3 is going to be a fantastic motor. What it lacks in BMW’s high rev hp it will make up for in neck twisting torque. They will be two very different motors and I bet you would like driving this one. A good as the BMW M- motors are, they do not have a ton of torque.

I’ve had two M3s and 3 other non Ms and love BMW more than anything, but this engine is going to be the sickness.

Dream car kind of vehicle… but at well north of $100k, what is the total number of possible buyers out there? and for that matter, with Bentley, Aston Martin, BMW, MB with different models, and others offering performance luxury at $100-$150k, that market is getting rather crowded.

My question would be whether they can take these design cues and put them in the next generation C-Class and E-Class that is the bulk of their volume without cheaping out or decreasing the brand of the CL. I’d even like to see these views on the next CLK which was made oddly feminine in the last go-around.

I realize that at a higher price tag, they can derive greater gross margin and therefore don’t have to move as much metal to make the same bottom line numbers, but I see the MB line-up getting rather fragmented with likely the same buyers have multiple MB and competitive options and therefore hard to lure other marquee-centric (BMW/AUDI/Jag-philes) customers.

As a side note, if anyone thinks anything Cadillac has to offer even compares to this in both cache / cool factor, then they are well-intentioned but erred patriots.

what you talking about? if u wanna talk smash better go do some basic research first. this new motor is on par with anything made by the ///M. its brand new from the ground up by amg. unlike the previous ones which were just mods on the existing mb engines.

#8 you are a moron. The cobra has a supercarger. GM is only getting 505hp out of a 7l. That much HP from 6.29L is very impressive and DFI will start being used by everyone. Of course you dont know what DFi stands for.

I like your take on the matter David.

If i ever felt like spending money on anything more then a sporty german premium compact w/ corresponding performance upgrades + I wanted to go pricey. i’d go bmw m5/m6. roughly 83k for an amazing vehicle.

Unless you have all of MB’s sport sedans lined up against one another, it gets tricky tell which is which. On that note, the person driving the 200k CL 63 AMG can be mistaken for the person driving around in a 40k Mercedes. Except for under the hood, and some aero work, there’s no obvious differentation between models and trims that makes the top end look very top end.

All right it’s going to be powerful, I agree with no.13 in saying it has tons of torque, this car, but remember it’s 6.2 LITRES, nitwits! Also, the XLR-V is just a piece of American crap which isn’t even 1/2 as good as this car, and it’s sold only in US!

This thing is a waste. Why? Who the HELL needs to drive a car like this? It is a gas guzzler, and for all you guys who like it, it is obvious that you would (if you could on the right roadds) drive it like it is intended, which means getting like 8 or 10 MPG.

This is a waste of gas. Stop wasting my gas!

MB is working on a hybrid vehicle, actually its the hybrid S550 currently in production.MB hasnt offically released the info on when it will hit the streets, but dont worry about the oil/gas problems…MB is work’n on it,be patient.
