Importer ZAP announced on Friday that a school teacher from Wellington, Florida, has taken delivery of the first U.S. approved Smart Car in the State of Florida through ZAP’s authorized dealership in West Palm Beach. “The attention these small automobiles get is amazing,” said Jonathan Ortiz of ZAP of Palm Beach, also known as Foreign Affairs Automotive. ZAP plans to announce other dealerships around the United States as they prepare for distribution. ZAP’s first Florida customer, Robert Sharon, has been a Smart Car fan since he toured Europe as a concert pianist in 2000. “I pointed the Smart Cars out to my music students while we were touring in Greece over the summer and I think they are almost as excited as I am,” said Sharon. “I love everything about the Smart Car, the maneuverability, flexibility and economy. I also drive a Mercedes E320 station wagon, so now my wagon has a baby brother.”

We’ve had them in Canada for quite some time now, in fact there’s one here in town.

Great input al. I prefer the Veyron to it as well, but what does that have to do anything?

Well this is a temporary thing as Zap will be getting a small number of cars into the hands of people who can afford and want a Smart. The next gen ForTwo is currently being tested and when this car is released I would imagine DaimlerChrysler will enter the US market officially and then Smarts will be readily available as in Canada and Europe.
I drive a Smart in Canada (diesel) and I like the car, gets lots of attention and is very practicle and great on fuel. I am not sure how much Zap charges but I am not sure getting a car from them will be the same experience but always nice to see someone trying to bridge the gap!!
And yes I would trade my Smart for a Porsche or Veyron

I remember seeing these things on the roads in Europe back in 2001 when we vacationed in France, but I don’t remember them being that tall! That thing could pass as an SUV!
