Fisker’s name may not be new in the automotive industry, but cars badged with his name on the hood are new – and a year late from their initially promised introduction.

First promised to arrive in September 2010, September 2011 is now here – the third deadline promised by Henry Fisker himself to be the month the company’s first model would begin arriving at dealers nationwide. While the Karma still hasn’t officially begun deliveries, sources at the automaker reportedly told Wardsauto that the cars are still on-track to begin deliveries before the close of the month.

Assuming the sources are right, this will be very welcome news for the dealer network that has been put in the difficult position of placating customers since September 2010, and then again in March 2011 and hopefully not again in September 2011 due to the lack of cars to give them. Many dealerships have pre-sold 100 or more examples of the Karma, despite not having a single car in the showroom to show.

The first batch of production cars are expected to arrive in the form of dealer demo cars, meaning paying customers could potentially not receive any cars until October if the first batch of deliveries arriving in September end up being the only cars delivered for the month.

That said, don’t worry about outspoken brand ambassador and actor Leonardo diCaprio, as he and several Fisker advocates took delivery of their cars last month.
