California-based Fisker Automotive has just begun sales of its first vehicle, the Karma plug-in sedan, but the upstart automaker is already confident that it will reach its six-digit sales target for its next plug-in vehicle.
Although the launch of Fisker’s second vehicle, the Nina, has already been delayed by a year, the company’s founder is confident that the company will achieve its sales goal of 100,000 units per year. The Nina will begin production at a former General Motors’ plant in Delaware in mid-2013.
“Analysts have to look at it from a different perspective,” company CEO Henrik Fisker said of the Nina’s 100,000 units annual sales goal. “There’s no perspective for it. We’ve made it.â€
He added: “We’ve already defied the analysts a couple times.â€
Fisker has yet to announce a date for the Nina’s 100,000 unit goal, although it’s assumed it will be a few years after the car enters production.
The Delaware plant will eventually employ about 2,500 workers, includes suppliers and contractors. Fisker currently sources its 2.0L turbocharged engine for the Karma from GM, but the Nina will utilized a turbocharged engine from BMW. That contract is, not surprisingly, good for up to 100,000 engines per year.
