Almost a year ago, Fisker Automotive announced that it would increase the Karma’s price by about $8,000.
History repeats itself, as the saying goes. In a recent interview with Fox News, Fisker said that it will again increase the Karma’s price, this time by 6%. The automaker did not immediately give a reason for the increase but there are rumors that claim that it is fueled by growing demand. Since the sedan has gone on sale, the waiting list for it has gotten longer and longer.
Starting on December 15th of this year, the Eco Standard version will go up from $95,500 to $102,000, while the more upmarket Eco Chic model will carry a base price of $116,000, up from $108,900. As a reminder, the Karma’s original projected base price was $80,000.
The company said that customers who have already made a deposit on the car have until January 15th, 2012, to confirm their order and pay the car’s old price.
The Karma is scheduled to be sold across Europe in the first half of 2012 but no price has been announced yet, so the increase only affects the United States.
The Fisker Karma is the brainchild of Danish engineer Henrik Fisker, whose previous works include the BMW Z8. While Fisker is an American company, the Karma is built in Finland alongside the electric TH!NK City by Valmet Automotive. The EPA rates it at 32 miles per gallon and it takes 6.3 seconds to spring from zero to 60 miles per hour.
