Illustrated: Fisker Karma Convertible

At a special event last week, Fisker Coachbuild briefly showed a single image of its forthcoming Karma plug-in hybrid convertible to members of the press. Unfortunately, the automaker has refused to release the image for publication. Luckily, our artists were able to create a detailed illustration of the car based on the preview shown.

The company announced plans for the car at the J.D. Power Roundtable in San Francisco. Fisker said the model will go on sale around the same time as the sedan.

That means both models should hit the market in late 2009, according to estimates. The automaker did not provide a name for the new model, but we wouldn’t rule out both models wearing the Karma badge.

The Karma sedan made its debut at the Detroit auto show last month. Powered by a Q-Drive drivetrain, the car promises to sprint to 60 mph in 5.8 seconds, yet be capable of delivering 100 miles to the gallon and traveling 50 miles on batteries alone.

Prior to the Karma project(s), Fisker specialized in building rebodied Mercedes-Benz and BMW cars. Founder Henrik Fisker previously worked as a designer, penning the Aston Martin DB9 and BMW Z8.

You know what… all these plans for new models from all manufacturers make you wonder how many they’re going to be able to sell for each model.

If you take the image in the article into Photoshop, and undue the skew, it looks pretty nice.

in a seriousness, it’s a great idea, I have to admit I would buy it (although the front end looks like the mask from V for Vendetta)

That photo is of the convertible version of the Artega GT or possibly a convertible Aston Martin. Safe to say that will not be the Fiskar 2 door, if there even will be a Fiskar 2 door.

Fiskar has been taking Karma 4 door orders with down payments for quite a while. If they plan on selling a 2 door version they have yet to announce or take a single order. Its unlikely they will release a 2 door at the same time as the 4 door. That if the 2 door is anything more than vaporware.

Put a real drivetrain in it, and THEN it’ll be nice. F*ck goddam hybrids and batteries, it’s just a pretty golf cart.

Why would anyone pay an inflated price for a rebodied benze or BMW? Why would someone buy a rebodied aston martin?? If I bought an Aston, I want it to look like an aston, not some kit car built buy a guy with an over inflated ego charging %50 more for a car that actually looks worse than the original.
