Fisker Coachbuild this week disclosed plans to build a new car on an original chassis — something it has never done before. The company — founded by Aston Martin designer Henrik Fisker in 2005 — made a name for itself by selling re-bodyied versions of the Mercedes SL and BMW 6-Series in small numbers. Mr. Fisker now plans to take his business to a new level by creating a car on an original platform, rather than re-skinning an existing car. The car will be Fisker’s highest volume model to date, with a planned 400 units annually. It will cost around $100,000, making it the independent automaker’s cheapest car, too. An official debut is planned for the 2007 Geneva Motor Show. The automaker is currently seeking venture capital to supports its efforts.

I liked his version of the SL and especially the 6-series much better than the Factory versions so lets hope this new car is just as pretty but a bit more original…
…also the pricing of his re-bodied SL and 645 were outrageous so it seems by dropping the base Factory car out of the equation, he can save enough to create a quality car for under 100k…

Hey, if Ascari can do it, so can Fisker.

I dunno…Being a Dane I should be thrilled about the prospects of a “danish car”, but…somehow I fear that Henrik Fisker peaked with the DB9? Hopefully he will venture where he didn’t and couldn’t dare go before, and create something really unique. But best of luck! Kør med svinet, Henrik!

good idea if it is original. As already stated the rebodied cars he created were outrageous. Their website is… different from most other websites too, not being a bad thing ( http://www.fiskercb.com/ their website). I just hopes he ventures into other designs, besides the jet nose inspired grill (it’s most easily noticed difference).

That’s great. I really loved the Fiskar designs and most of the works of Mr. Fiskar himself.. I hope it is as fantastic as the DB9!

It’s hard to imagine that you can make any money at all with the design, tooling, testing costs associated with making a new car from the ground up.
Also, they’ll still have to buy an engine from someone and that can’t be cheap.

Looks like he’s carried over a great deal of the Aston Martin look! This copy cat car will have a steep hill to climb before it’ll be successful.

Hendrik’s a tallented artist a very humble man. He took the time to talk to me on the media days of LA Autoshow last year, even though the press was hawking for pictures and interviews and I was just a design student.

I doubt he’ll achieve those lofty heights. That poc anyway looks like a cross between the vatnage, nex XK and BMW 5-series headlights……needs serious work.

fisker’s cars look amazing, the lines are all clean, its a true supercar, there is nothing x5 or xk about it besides designing a car to putting your own name on them is a huge step, he has definitely not peaked.

Wonderful things happen when a design genius responsible for the sucess of the current Aston Martin has an oppurtunity to have a clean sheet of paper from which to design his next car. He will no longer be constrained by adopting existing models for conversion to his masterpieces.

Fleming it’s his own design, he was the one who made the “look” in the first place.

this car that you guys keep saying is a copy is NOT the ORIGINAL car being made by Fisker, it’s the Coachbuilt car from Mercedes/BMW
but yes, hopefully, the car in plan will be original
