Five-door Toyota Yaris coming to U.S. for 2009 model year

07/01/2008, 1:02 PM

By Drew Johnson

In the wake of America’s mass exodus from trucks and SUVs to more efficient models, Toyota has announced that its Yaris five—door will be available in the U.S. for the 2009 model year. The five-door has been available in other markets since launch, but the U.S. has been limited to the three and four-door Yaris models.

The five-door model is close in size to the three-door model, but should offer back seat occupants a bit more room. Powertrain offering are expect to mirror those offered throughout the Yaris range. U.S. pricing has yet to be announced for the Yaris five-door.

In addition to the five-door model, Toyota will also add standard front side airbags and rear side curtain airbags to the Yaris for the 2009 model year. Cruise control will also now be available on hatchback models.

Is this the only $H!T LLN publishes? Toyota and honda are doing good, the big 3 are going down, that’s all LLN writes about. I think I’m going to the toyota dealership tonight and slashing some tires, I might even key the $H!T out of some new “fuel efficient” cars.

With the way gas price are Toyota gonna sell plenty of this Yaris. When the first generation Yaris come out to the market, I would ask myself who would buy this car. But now I have to second though about it.

Because the Scion xA and xB 5-doors were already selling in the US, with the same 1.5-liter motor and platform as the Yaris. Now that the xB and xD have grown and now feature larger motors, there is no reason not to bring the 5-door Yaris here.

The Yaris is a POS. Even CR hates it and that rag basically praises anything coming from Japan.

Believe it or not it will be great success and you will not be able to get it just like 3-4 door Yaris or Prius or Corolla. today. Next year crude will be at about $225/barrel translating into $6/gallon. We are living good life today. Those 1.5L engines will be in demand (if you want to drive that is)

the Yaris 3 & 5 door have been on sale in canada for years now, they only killed off the ecco name last year.

“where is the 5-door aveo?”

they sell those in Canada & Mexico, Canada has had them since introduction of the model, same with the Wave.
