Forbes automotive columnist Jerry Flint has published a critical look at Lincoln ’s new naming scheme, which some Ford executives believe will help save the struggling luxury carmaker. While Flint points to the fact that many successful automakers have used alphabetic or numeric names for its vehicles, he says Lincoln has much bigger problems that need to be addressed. They include: Letting the Town Car age into oblivion instead of creating a new knockout rear-wheel-drive car; Never improving or building variations for the smaller, sporty LS sedan; Creating a new Navigator sport utility vehicle that looked just like the old one; And making luxury Lincolns from the Mazda 6 platform.
