Automotive industry observer Jerry Flint has issued a scathing review of the next-generation Lincoln Town Car — before it has even been shown to the public (let alone released). Flint — who saw the car at a pre-Christmas Ford party — questions its ability to compete in the luxury segment. Ford has reportedly elected to use a front-wheel-drive-bias AWD system, much like the system it uses on the Ford 500, Volvo lineup, and Jaguar X-Type. “That Jag is a failure,” writes Flint. “Why would Ford want to risk repeating failure, repeating the X-Type experience, instead of imitating the only great success with Lincoln in its entire 80-year history, the rear-drive Town Car?” What’s more, Flint says the design the forthcoming car “isn’t exactly a head-turner.” Flint points out that Mercedes, BMW, Jaguar, Lexus are all rear-drive, and Chrysler and Cadillac have also switched back to rear-wheel-drive for their luxury and performance cars.
