2008 Focus Coupe-Cabriolet unveiled for Europe

02/05/2008, 11:45 AM

By admin

Ford today revealed the 2008 Focus Coupe-Cabriolet for the European market. On display at the Geneva auto show next month, the new model joins the three-door, four-door, five-door, wagon and ST models that have been recently updated.

As a final addition to the Focus range, the high-performance Ford Focus RS model will be launched in 2009.

The newly designed Coupe-Cabriolet with its retractable hardtop will again be manufactured at Pininfarina’s Bairo plant. The italian firm also had a hand in designing the car.

“The new Ford Focus Coupé-Cabriolet is a special blend: We felt that the new very ‘kinetic’ front end design will perfectly complement the timelessly-elegant, Italian flavoured profile and rear end design,” explained Chris Bird, Design Director at Ford of Europe. “The result is a perfect mix of latest level Focus dynamics and the special Coupe-Cabriolet design execution that we had already developed jointly with Pininfarina.”

The interior also received a new look, plus higher quality finishes and hard-wearing materials. Perhaps the most noticeable visual change for the driver is the new “binocular-style” instrument cluster with instruments components illuminated in red.

A range of Duratec gas and Duratorq diesel engines are available with the car. These include a 1.6-litre gasoline engine producing 100 horsepower and a more powerful 2.0-liter gas motor delivering 145 horsepower. On the diesel front, a 2.0-liter TDCi engine churns out 136 horses.

Yet another nice European Ford product that Americans will never get to enjoy.

DamIt Ford. I refuse to feel sorry for your monetary losses when you won’t give products like this to us…this is exactly what I want. Thoses workers you are laying off should rebel on your upper level decisions…they stink.

Top up, it’s pretty ugly. Top down, it looks pretty sweet.

It’d have pretty much no competition in the States, but as always pricing would be the issue.

Nevertheless, let’s hear it for yet another round of “bring it to the states!”

I was thinking the exact same thing as seanm415; this would have made a nice Mercury Capri. It would have at least given Mercury one product that was not a rebadged clone of a product sold by Ford’s U.S. division. What a missed opportunity for Ford in the U.S.

Damn that’s sexy! And I’m not talking about the lady…. I hate Ford just for not offering this in the U.S.

You know how much better this looks compared to the Chrysler Sebring convertible and the G6 Coupe Convertible? C’mon Ford…

Sounds a little underpowered to me personally but I know just how much Europeans like saving the world and their money with their fuel efficient consciences…. (cough) But Ford really needs to bring this design to North America, well Canada and U.S since they offer the Focus ST in Mexico…

This would sell pretty well in the US. Right now there isn’t, as far as I know, an economy class convertible. Maybe it doesn’t meet US crash test standards?

Any American can buy this car; you just have to go down to your local Volvo dealer and ask for a C70. Ah, but don’t forget to have $39,985 handy.

I think Ford SHOULD bring this car to the U.S., but I also think they need to change the name from Focus to something else. This car would probably come in around $25,000-and I think people associate the name Focus with cheap. In other words, I know a lot of people who WOULD buy this car, but would NOT be proud to say they bought a Focus. It does not look like a Focus in the U.S., and therefore it MIGHT have a chance at success with a different name. My suggestion? The Ford Falcon.

I don’t know about you guys.. but with a 2.0L or 2.4L motor, this would be a really sweet vehicle. I am not a fan of ford, but if they were to bring some of their euro cars over and used mazda engines in their cars, i would suddenly lose interest in the ‘08 civic coupe and scion tC i’m looking at right now.

Top up this looks awkward as hell. I’ll go smash my thumb with a hammer later, but the Sebring convertible is a much classier drop top. Go drive one with the 3.5. As long as you don’t have a need to push your car to 9/10ths all the time it’s a very nice ride.

Drop tops in most guises dont work for me… Exceptions include old ’stangs, E30 BMWs, Escort Cabs (Chavviness at its best) and a few select others…

Still, the Focus is, as RagazzaCompetitione mentioned, a generic CC… Here we have anything from a Micra CC to the 307s, Focusses etc…

These don’t sell very well here in Europe… The coupé-cabriolet is already a competitive niche-market, with the Opel Astra CC, VW Eos, Peugeot 307 CC, Renault Mégane CC, etc… In the US, you guys have the v.good VW Eos! Looks more premium-ish than a “regular” Ford Focus. That’s why they don’t call it the VW Golf CC.
