Ford: 4,200 workers still need to go

09/11/2008, 1:05 PM

By Andrew Ganz

Ford Motor Company officials told the UAW yesterday in a closed meeting that 4,200 hourly positions still need to be eliminated before the automaker is where it thinks it needs to be. Ford didn’t go as far as saying that 4,200 job cuts is a targeted amount to, but the Dearborn-based company did say that it currently employs that many more employees than it needs to produce cars currently.

Ford and the UAW met together in private talks to outline Ford’s plan to restructure its North American manufacturing operations. Ford has cut about 40 percent of its hourly workforce in the last three years through voluntary buyouts and early retirements. Its most recent attempt to cut 9,000 workers garnered only half the buyouts it wanted. As of late June, Ford has more than 60,000 hourly workers in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Soon it will be Bill Ford and some guy, who refused any buyouts, building cars in Bills garage.

Sorry but is UAW to blame, they just wanted more, and more, and more. You can only suck a cash cow’s titty so mush until the milk runs out. Then they get upset at Nissan and Toyota for not letting then in there U.S. plants. I wander why….
