Remember when Ford promised seven new or heavily re-worked models as part of an ambitious plan to revive its luxury brand? Well, it appears you can now make that six.

According to two inside sources at Ford speaking with FordInsideNews, Lincoln has decided to abandon the car that was to be a derivative of the Concept C, which was to be based on the 2012 Ford Focus C-platform.

The reason for the car being killed before ever being born are based around cannibalization fears, partly with the midsize Lincoln MKZ, partly with the still-in-development small CUV coming from Lincoln – internally referred to as MKD.

According to an inside source that claims to have seen the MKD, the CUV resembles a tall hatchback of sorts more than a traditional SUV layout, which could explain fears of overlap given the design of the Concept C was very much a tall hatchback.

Ford has yet to confirm these reports, but given promises to Lincoln dealers urged to update their facilities with the prospect of seven new vehicles in the pipeline, we expect the subject will have to be publicly addressed at some point in the relatively near future.

Previous reports suggested a production version of the Concept C could be unveiled at the L.A. Auto Show, but it has been over six months since that rumor surfaced, and much could have changed since.
