Ford has announced that it will add 1,500 workers to its Vsevolozhsk, Russia production plant in an effort to boost production by 75 percent, totaling 125,000 units. The factory — which is just outside of St. Petersburg — produces the Ford Focus hatchback, the best-selling foreign-brand car in Russia.
Ford is ramping up capacity at its Vsevolozhsk plant in anticipation of adding the Ford Mondeo to the production mix. According to The Detroit News, the Russian plant currently employs 2,074 workers.

Ford is looking to bolster its European operations by ramping up efforts in Russia and eastern Europe. In 2007, Ford of Europe sold 1.92 million vehicles — a 72,000 unit increase over the year before.
