Ford announces prices for 2008 Focus

Ford has released pricing for its 2008 Focus. The entry-level Focus S Coupe will hit showrooms with a sticker price of $14,695 with the Focus S Sedan starting at $14,995. The up-level Focus SE will add $1,000 to the price of the S Coupe and Sedan. The range-topping SES will come standard with Ford’s Sync technology — a $395 option on lesser models — and sticker for $16,695 in coupe form and $16,995 for the Sedan version. All prices include destination charge.

The new Focus commands a slight premium over the 2007 model. While there is no coupe in the current lineup, the 3-door hatchback starts at $13,775 with sedan models starting at $14,660.

According to Ford, the new Focus is 30 pounds lighter, 10% quieter and 3% more powerful than the outgoing model. The interior is also said to be much improved and now offers ambient lighting.

They’re asking too much. Unless they ship the second gen Focus, over 12K to start is frankly too much.

Otherwise, I’d like to know what FORD has in mind for the third gen Focus.

jackjimturkey, you clasically biased ****, this is hardly the second best compact. Haha, that’s a bad joke. This isn’t even the Euro Focus, now if it were, then what you’re saying would be legitimate, but it’s just a restyled car based on the same, outdated platform. The Mazda 3 and the Honda Civic are better compacts, and I know you’re gonna bring up the recent Civic recalls, blahblahblah I don’t give a ****, because overall, as a vehicle, the quality levels of the Civic are miles ahead of this, despite the recall.

Styling ain’t bad at all, esp for the value. However, to compete with other vehicles in the same market, its got quite an uphill climb. You have the Civic, Mazda3, and possibly, the upcoming Corolla.

lol Ford haters

anyways i like the lcd on inside and the exterior , some of the interior needs a little more….something (like the cd/heating/ac panel)
overall looks good.
i suspect Ford has made some internal modifications to make it BETTER than the current one.
(I’m not talking about the already announce 13% quieter 3% more powerful etc. which do make it better than the current ones)
The price isn’t too bad but could be cheaper.

Is this the same car that came out 10-12 years ago along with “oval” theme Taurus? Taurus was remodeled to get rid of oval ugliness and now is completely new car that even had a name double change. Does Ford still working on improvement of decade old, less then successful car that it does not sell anywhere else but in States? Perhaps I am completely wrong and it is new car that is 1% lighter, 10% quieter and 3% more powerful then decade old predecessor.
BTW Focus in Europe is decent especially diesel powered.

This interior owns the euopean model, but the exterior and powertrains from Eu. kill this thing. I think it might be a big mistake to kill off the hatchbacks.

Damnit Ford. I wish I could just kick you in the damn ass for what you’ve given us.

Yes, nice interior, but does someone think the huge amount of metallic dashboard panels may be a bit *too* reflective?

The European Focus owns this thing in every single other thing, aside from interior. Damn that thing is ugly! So much black window paneling, huge front bumper (does anybody at Ford not realize that it’s unnecessary and ugly? How about integrating it into the body?). The gaps look huge, not because they are but because of the way they are integrated next to each other, they slightly depress against each other before meeting. And please, give us something more in the front than two lousy square foglights and headlights- add some detail! I see European models, Asian models and even some of the chinese and they all appear to have a grasp on the concept of a few simple angles in the front, and a few details more than a straight edge is capable of doing

Autonut, the vehicle you are thinking of is the final generation of the US Escort.. the Focus came out in 2000 here. Strangely enough, this new US Focus looks more like that Escort than the old Focus! There are too many cutlines, vents, round and sharp edges.. Focus 3 couldn’t get here soon enough. If only Ford had renamed the hatchbacks as ZX3/ZX5 and kept them around until the Fiesta gets here!

Listen to all of you piss and moan. For christ sake. This care is going to be cheaper than any ****in import buy at least 1500, and it is a hell of a lot nicer than the civic, corolla. Actually the one it is replacing is better as well. All of you shut the **** up. I’m sick of everyone bitching. Yeah it’s not an import, it’s better. The domestics are proving it. Open your ****in eyes. I see all these cars on a daily basis. Focus, Civic, Corolla, Cobalt, Caliber, etc. Stopp the bull****. People have purchased the Focus over the others 3 to one. The only reason anyone even buys an import is because of PERSEVED VALUE. And don’t give me any **** about resale either. Just because the imports start out higher, doesn’t mean their resale is better, the percentage lost is the same across the board. **** HEADS

1. The interior is a vast improvement over the current Focus. Considering this is where you’ll spend 99.99% of your time in a car, it’s the best place to improve.
2. I really wish Ford would bring back the Focus SVT. This would be a good stopgap until the 3rd generation comes along. It won a lot of acclaim when it was offered, but the beancounters axed it.
3. MSRP is meaningless; most of these will be sold at or near invoice with dealers making money on holdback. The Focus’ marketing segment has become extremely competitive; without a competitive redesign these will be sold on price. It’s still a good car for the money, particularly the hatchback option.

This car is one of the worst looking things I’ve ever seen. From the whacky front that doesn’t tie into any other Ford product, to the crazy overdone sides with gigantic faux-fender vents, to the rear end with that weirdo character line, to that WAY too reflective “Hey, Look at ME ALL THE TIME!” shiny plastic dash. . .
Oh, and the bones of the car are nearly a decade old you say??

Sounds like the worst deal of the century.

It just adds insult to injury knowing Ford offers a highly comptetitive, attractive, newer Focus in Europe.

The current model North American Focus is actually still quite attractive. This is monstrous.

Thanks a lot Ford! :)

Ford is crazy.

Entry level can NOT mean $15K.

Toyota sells a very basic Camry for $17K.

Not to argue US vs Toyota, but you get a much bigger, nicer car for $2-3K more.

Your stupid neighbors wouldn’t know if you bought the stripped or loaded version, they just know you got a new nice car.

that is a 15k sticker price. If it is anything like the current focus with about 3k in rebates that brings it down to 12k. alot of car for 12000 no matter which way you look at it.

If there is one car in Ford’s lineup that could seriously use some “kinetic design” magic, it’s this one. The exterior design is disjointed and grotesque. The HUGE fender vent is totally ridiculous. The U.S. signature three bar grille treatment is missing a bar and is poorly executed. I just hope it drives better than it looks.

I am glad to see the coupe body style returning (if I ignore how it looks). I just think it’s unfortunate that its return is at the expense of offering hatchback or wagon models. A full line of alternatives would make this model unique in the compact segment.

veda: you’ve brought that crap up before, and I listed every car I’ve owned.

I like the Euro Focus (by photos), but I’ve been stuck stateside most of the last decade and have not driven it. The company I work for has the USDM focus as corporate cars, and their pretty solid. The only Gen Y car I’d even look at.

Getreal: I’d argue that the focus and Camry should be priced about the same, but in a vacuum, when your compact is priced the same as a competitor’s commuter coffin, you need to cut your price
