Since Ford officially announced its Volvo brand was up for ‘strategic review’ late last year, there have been plenty of sale rumors circling the internet. While some have been proven false, it appears as though at least a few had a foundation in reality as Ford is in the midst of detailed talks with potential Volvo buyers.
Ford officially announced on Wednesday that it is holding talks with potential Volvo buyers, even saying it is surprised by the “number and quality” of Volvo suitors.
“We’ve had contact with a number of parties who’ve expressed interest concerning the future of Volvo ,” John Gardiner, Ford ’s European director of strategic communications, told Automotive News. “We’ve had preliminary discussions to determine the level of interest in the Volvo business that they have and we’re now talking in more detail to those parties about the future for Volvo.”
Gardiner failed to name any specific automakers or companies interested in Volvo, but it sounds as if the Swedish automaker is drawing some significant interest. No timeline has been set for the sale of Volvo, but Ford is likely looking to sell the European luxury marque within the next few months.
