Ktulu’s real login name is probably something like Lyko. I always get a good laugh at his posts, and everyone’s reactions.

The Smart car has 70 hp, 68 lb.-ft. of torque, and it does 0-60 in just under 13 seconds. I had an Escort LX that had 88 hp. It wasn’t much different. But with light weight, not much power is needed.

I know what you guys are saying about the short freeway ramps, though. They suck. We have a few short ones here, but they aren’t very common. However, in Southern California, I’ve found ridiculously short freeway ramps that are not only short, but they turn sharply. Sometimes you have to go around this 15mph turn, and then floor it to get up to 85mph, which is what everyone else is doing, and the only way to get to the speed of traffic by the end of the ramp is if you are in an Ariel Atom. And to top it off, the exit ramps are just as bad. You go from 85mph to a 20mph turn in like 30 feet. And people wonder why traffic in Southern California is bad…

Funny Ktulu… but I like my 89 Daytona. It gets decent mileage… costs a whole $30 a month to insure… and I don’t have to worry about anyone trying to door-ding or steal it. Cops ignore it… and that little turbo 2.5 has suprised more than a few ricers.

Local dealership/salesman(well, he does the commercials for tv, too)… told me yesterday(stopped by, saw him in the lot, showing a new Focus to some folks)….he said” January 2010″ will be the release date.
Claims that is the “offical word” they got.
So, 16.5 months to go. Should be more like .5 months.

After I hired a few translators to decipher what you just wrote, I have to say this. 1) The Maverick was introduced in 1969, and its engine, in today’s terms, got far less than 120hp because that 120hp was in gross ratings, not SAE net, which came about for 1972, and everyone’s horsepower ratings fell like crazy. As I recall, the 200 I6 dropped to about 88bhp in the Maverick.

last time I was excited about a Ford product was the SHO.

89 Dodge Daytona seems more like punishment thah tranbsportation.

That is a true statement WRX… if this new Ford is of decent quality I’m sure it will do quite well… dispite its name. It is just too bad on the hp thing though. I keep hoping that Honda will make a Fit Si with about 160hp and a close-ratio 6-speed. It’ll be the CRX all over again.

mayer, I was thinking the same thing. But I think PA on-ramps are much, much longer that crackerhemi’s dick. Provided he has one. Have the doctors found it yet?

110hp is more than most midsize and larger cars had 25 years ago.

RaineMan, etc. — look at the Honda Fit. This Fiesta is an inch-by-inch clone of that, and the Fit is already selling so well that the average time-on-lot is as short as the Prius. You might moan about the HP, but they are not going to have to drop a 200hp motor in this to sell it.

I’m sure they’ll put some anemic 110hp mill in it and claim good gas mileage. I’m waiting to see the 80hp engines come back like they did 20 years ago. Superb mileage… but it does 0-60 in… wait I lost count.
I know that a lot of you will say that the average consumer doesn’t care about 0-60 times. But I will tell you this.. I pull out of my neighborhood onto a 10-lane inner city highway where the posted limit is 55 and most drivers do 70. There is no stoplight… and you can either sit there till christmas waiting for a gap… or pull out, floorboard it, and be confident that your car has enough ponies under the hood to get you safely into the flow of traffic before that big rig plows you under.

The goal of producing a million vehicles annually is indeed very ambitious but with lucrative markets such as China developing at such a rapid pace, there may well be enough demand.
