Aussie #1 – Fairlane was a nameplate here in the US long before it went Down Under.

However this Fairlane is 2 years too late if they make it to market in time for the ’09 model year – typical Ford foot-dragging…

This is the worst car ive ever seen i can’t believe they would even think of producing it. Im a Ford Fan and it just kills me when i see cars like this released, and why did they have to take our 40 year old name from ford Australia

I agree, quit talking about it and just get the thing into production and out on the showroom floor. It is so sad to see so many people just mulloing around and things not really moving fast enough.

And I find it humorous and ironic how Ford points out that most concept cars do not make it into production and they are the world class leaders in doing just that….producing great concepts and then either not producing them or dumbing them down to boring boxes…i.e. Lincoln Continental Concept and Lincoln Zephyr Concept.

I’ll watch and see what happens, but I’m not holding my breath….. I’m shopping elsewhere.

P.S. Mark Fields needs to lay off the Grecian formula and get a new rug/weave or whatever…I think he makes enough money to NOT have to look like that!

Brendino – I’m pretty sure the Fairlane concept was unveiled at the Detroit show in January 05 so here we are nearly 2 years later and they are still talking about the Fairlane as the “new thing” and it is still over a year away from the showroom. Just doesn’t seem very “bold”. Its like the Camaro – I’m tired of hearing about it and I haven’t even seen one on the road.

Hal, this thing was given the go-ahead in September, and they want to get it to production for ’08. That is by no means slow. Tradition is that it takes three years from go-ahead to production, so they’ll have to move quickly. However, I have a sneaking suspicion that a lot of work went into this vehicle before they publically announced its production.

Although, if you remember back to the earlier episode about the GT-H going into normal production, they talked about how they want to speed up their development cycle, so this is their chance to prove it.

DETROIT (Reuters) — Ford Motor Co. said Thursday Chief of Staff and Chairman Bill Ford Jr.’s brother-in-law Steve Hamp will leave the company Oct. 31, after which the automaker will eliminate the post.

I guess “Chairman’s brother-in-law” is no longer an offical job title at FoMoCo. : )

I like how eager and enthusiastic all the Ford execs seem about the Fairlane. You can almost see their tails wagging.
It feels like we have been hearing about the Fairlane forever tho’ and it is still a way off. How long does it take Ford from concept design to showroom compared to other manufacturers? I hope they get the pricing, options and quality right.

If executed properly, this car could be really huge.
Anyone noticing that they’re playing with a car that has proper door handles and no suicide doors though? Where I’m talking about is like 5/6 of the way through the video. Is this another vehicle or do you think that they’re already moved forward with the concept significantly?
