The iron block 5.4 and supercharger is a heavy combination. The regular Mustang GT is more balanced. A low mile comparison between a 400hp Corvette and the GT500 might be close now but I’ll bet after the break in period the GT500 would beat it handily in the quarter mile. The performance potential of the GT500’s engine is incredible. The GT500 does need a suspension kit for true racing such as is on the Hertz GT350. The 6.2 Hurricane V8 is on the way so keep talkin smack GM boys. My 06 Mustang GT with bolt-ons runs just under 13 second 1/4 mile times. I get people who want to see what my car’s got and I haven’t been pulled on yet. I’m sure I will but I will be very impressed when it happens. Everyone who rides with me is severely impressed. Try one before talking smack.

hey # 23 liquify, gm has more than the Z06 to hang with the cobra, car and driver magazine compared the stock 400hp corvette with the cobra and it one in every category, so we all no 4 sure that the z06 will kick the cobras ass. the z06 hangs with and often beats ferraris and astons

To all of you who do not like this car. Like was said in the video, you will not get beat on the street. This is a really nice car. I dont even like mustangs but to those of you who said mustangs is no muscle car. Obviously you havent been to an actual race track because 80% of the cars are stangs. I have a friend who has a Procharged Mach 1 and there is nothing or anyone who will go up against his car. Its a stock looking car that runs 10.5’s@125MPH and is daily driven. Let me see an Evo or anything like that on the street. This is 2fast 2 furious people.

liquify: Have you driven an Evo yourself? Trust me, an Evo is a far better car in every respect. The only thing this Shelby has going for it is its history. Old men love it because they can relive the glory days. Live axle? Are they JOKING? As my friend g-man points out, that’s like horse-drawn carriage technology!

The car may be cheap, but they’ve obviously cut several corners. I can’t believe this car costs any more than $15,000 to build. They’ve barely spent anything on R&D – the thing is just a Mustang in drag!

Let me re-iterate – this car is for show. Plain and simple. This car is NOTHING compared to the orginal Shelby Cobra that won Le Mans and beat Ferrari. All it shares is the name. This is a money spinner – they are playing on American masculine desires, primarily targeted at the older generation who can afford these cars and miss their muscle car days. It’s loud, it’s raw, it has a lot of straight-line power (but still not as quick as more efficient cars), and has the Shelby name.

Among Ford, chrysler & GM if I have to buy an American car, the brand I will choose chrysler first, then Ford & last GM, but that depends on which model, styling, features, engine, safety, quality & price.
what ford BOLD MOVES me to buy is…
1) ship the whole lines new focus from europe in 2009
2) ship the C/D/S-max crossover ?
3) ship the new mondeo as new fusion, maybe in 2012?

so your going to wait for the camaro? why? the only thing that gm has to offer us now to even hang with this car is the z06. which by the way is a ninety thousand dollar car, provided you can find one. and the evo? are you serious? i’ve read reports one the evo and hands down the consensus is the same. piece-o-****! so i commend ford! they know how to build a car! and remember what happened ls1 owners, when you guys ran your mouths about the 03-04 cobras? you got clipped! same is gonna happen again.

Whoa those front springs need to be pumped up a little bit they are not nearly strong enough. The rebound on the shocks need to be adjsuted as well.

I mean what did they do leave the V6 mustang front springs in that car instead of making new ones for the extra couple of hundred pounds that motor weighs.

Modern technology? They might want to firm up that front suspension. No performance manufacturer would be stupid enough to show a car diving so much. They’d be too embarrassed. That must significantly increase braking distance. I’ve found that a lot of US-manufactured cars have *very* soft suspension – but thats no excuse for a “performance” car. Cornering must be like driving a boat…

“Can’t be beat”? An Mitsubishi Evo 9 (FQ360) accelerates to 60 in just 4.1secs – the Mustang is “rumored” to do it in 4.5secs. The Evo costs less than a Mustang and handles far better. And that’s just one example of a car that costs less than the Mustang.

They are trying to cash in on the Shelby name. Pure and simple. It doesn’t even look all that great – virtually the same as a normal Mustang GT with some accents here and there… Oh, and of course the Shelby badge.

OMG, there is so much here I don’t even know where to start. Comparisons to how advanced it is over the 60s mustangs. Gee I’d hope so, that was only 40 years ago, how about a comparison against modern cars (…on second thought maybe not a good idea). But “using modern technology”. What, airbags and disc brakes? That live rear axle isn’t exactly “modern” technology. How about the dive under braking. Holy crap did someone throw a Nimitz class boat anchor off the front of that thing? Or the video itself. Maybe 15 seconds of the car and at least 2 minutes of some old guy talking about Sammy Hagar. How totally craptastic. “Bold Moves”? Bowel moves is more like it.

I think the purpose of this series is to show us that they “get it” now. When it comes to the Mustang: without question, they GET IT.
But personally, I am waiting to see some of the back-room conflicts (contrasting viewpoints, if you will) regarding the rest of the Ford line. Show me the internal round-table arguments about the direction of the Focus, Five Hundred, etc… Let me know that they GET IT, and not just with the Mustang.

C’mon Ford. So the Mustang is fast and has good brakes. How do the characteristics of one low-volume version of a high-volume, only so-so car, translate into greatness for the entire Ford marque? I’m not to sure the Mustang has that ability. I understand the idea of a “Halo” car. Ford needs to create a first-rate luxery, sports sedan and then bestow it with the driving characteristics of the Mustang – price it under the European and Japanese competition and go from there – this is a halo car. Think of the M5, but for those who have a more modest budget.

Nice car and I liked this episode since there was a non-FOrd person in it…LOL. Ford though really needs to concentrate and show us what BOLD MOVES they have for the common everyday car, because the current Focus is OLD and there are no B-Class Cars (Scion xB type vehicles) that I think could make Ford some much needed money if done right. Shelbys are nice, but not the WAY FORWARD.

Ok, good start. Now where’s the rwd sedan, roadster, and crossover to complete the package. There’s no doubt the mustang is good for what it is, but it’s the only good car ford has (not counting the f150, which is a utility vehilce)
