Fortunately, Ford is 100% committed to Jaguar.

Unfortunately, Ford is also 100% committed to Lincoln and Mercury, and look how poorly they are managing those brands.

ford’s ownership of jaguar is a case study on how to destroy a brand

not to say jaguar was not committing suicide pre-ford, but at least it wasn’t trashing its brand with $30k rebranded fords

jag is truly out of the running in the luxury market anymore, i hardly see anyone driving them these days, much like saab, another destroyed upscale brand

The S-Type shares its platform with the Lincoln LS and the Ford Thunderbird (both now discontinued). Neither the S- nor X-Type chassis have anything in common with the Taurus.

The key to saving Jaguar is updating the X-type to compliment the XF. It’s the last vehicle using the Ford CD132 platform (shared with the discontinued Ford Mondeo, Contour, & Mercury Cougar) and the engines are relatively unrefined Duratecs. Ford Global already has most of the components to address these shortfalls:
- Base the replacement on the revised CD3 platform (currently used for the Lincoln MKZ, Mercury Milan, Mazda 6, etc.)
- For the drivetrain, use the new Volvo 3.2L straight 6 and the current Jaguar 4.4L V8
- Exterior, use styling derived from the XF. Get away from the ‘XJ x Taurus’ styling that turns off younger buyers
- Interior: Keep that traditional wood/leather British Saloon that Jaguar is famous for.

Whatch the quality and pricing, with a good advertising campaign targeting 30 – 40 year old males, and watch sales take off.

Let Jaguar roll. FoMoCo should give Jag the backing to let them become the Luxo/sports leader they could be. Sufficently prompted and funded, the Brits could easily compete with the Germans……or anyone else in the upper end.

With Aston gone, Jaguar is free to move up and expand its product line. We should all expect great things from Jag in the coming years, not stuff most of us can afford, but automotive excellence nonetheless

Edbert, agreed. The c-xf is an awesome car and would replace the aging S-type well. Now that the legacy design mind-set is out of the picture, they can evolve like the rest of the industry.

It continues to shock me how poor a job Ford has done with Jaguar. It sold just 4,200 cars in the first three months of this year. BMW and Mercedes sold about 15 times as many.

If they’re going to keep it, they’d better figure out what to do with it. So he’d better take that “good plan” and execute it well.
