Why is everyone assuming this CEO purchased a frugal SYNC-equipped Focus or Fusion? It says “Ford PRODUCT” so my guess is probably Lincoln MKS or MKT, or at least the new Taurus or Flex.

I rode in a 959 once – I was too young to drive at the time, but I sure wanted to. It was a very nice, very quick car at that time.

“But wait, you haven’t been to Europe!” That’s right. How did I do it? Well, when non-street-legal cars are imported, they must be modified in order to be used on public roads. This car’s horsepower had to be dialed back a bit, and its top speed was limited to 160mph. I know there were other things done, as well, but I don’t know what they were. I was too interested in riding in the car, and not all the little things. The one I rode in was black, and it was purchased as a timeshare car (go figure) by a group of general contractors, one of which was a family friend and did a bunch of work for my dad. He told me the original owner was an 85-year-old woman.

Just thought I’d share.

Jake, I have no idea what Balmer drives, but Bill Gates brought into US Porsche 959 to learn that he’ll never will be able to drive it on the public road. Another “geek” Larry Elison (CEO of Oracle) has always driven Ferrari and Lambo, despite the fact that he shares racing yacht with BMW. Goodle founders funded Tesla. Perhaps geeks know something about cars and can afford to purchase new and quite exotic models.

F*ck I must be old. I drove all the way home from work with the windows down not listening to anything but the sounds of my car and the surrounding traffic. Saw my first ’10 Mustang GT on the road this evening- red convertible with the top down- and it looked great. Some drives that’s all the information I need to process.

You know this may sound funny, but I bet Steve Ballmer actually drives this as his everyday car. Those business minded computer guys aren’t like car guys, they are more frugal and if they get a free car, they’ll use it. And on the partnership with Ford – His father had worked in Belgium as a manager at Ford Motor Co in the 1960s – and he grew up in Farmington Hills Michigan – next to Detroit – so it’s not by accident that Ford and Microsoft were first to team up.
