I agree lets use the Wave motion gun!

As far as this Lincoln I agree its good but it gets lost out there. there are so many luxury cars that are alike. It has to be outstanding. Ford you need to do even better. Get a Lincoln to not only park itself like a Lexus but one that can drive itself!

Mark Fields....someone REALLY needs to inform the Emperor that he has no clothes....

That Lincoln is so generic looking. It has no design identity whatsoever. it looks like a conglomeration of every styling cue from every manufacturer out there, and no Lincoln DNA whatsoever! And NO, not all Lincolns were bland..remember the Mark VIII LSC? Beautifully designed, 4.6 DOHC 32 Valve V8 that ran like a bat out of hell. C'mon Lincoln, you KNOW it can be done, so get the right designers onboard to design something that will make someone want to be SEEN in a new Lincoln!

anyone getting excited over the sketch needs to calm down. You've SEEN the MKS concept months ago. Anyone who hasn't seen it, just click:
http://www.cars.com/go/features/autoshows/vehicle.jsp?autoshow=Chicago&vehicletype=concept&autoshowyear=2006&vehicle=concept_lincoln_mks

sketches are exaggerated as such:
-wheels and wheelarches exaggeratedly big
-panel gaps, headlights, excess fender height exaggeratedly small
-roof low
-hood high.

the concept looked like a g35 on m45 scale with a big Lincoln grille. Nothing to write home about, and it's playing in 3series territory with volvo values. It's gonna get crushed. Lincoln should have released a new continental in the same vein of retro that the challenger was cast in.

I know every automaker copies every other automaker... and the cycle continues etc etc. but that seriously resembles a GS 430. Other than that... its actually not that bad looking.

The MKS will most likely be FWD/AWD as the FiveHundred, Montego and S80 are.

Ford needs its own small V8. The Yamaha is great, but an emense corporation as Ford should have had its own a while ago.

There is very little to say about this car that wasn't said when the MKS concept debuted. On three sides, the car could looks like a Lexus. On the rear, it looks like an Oldsmobile or Buick. With minor tweaks, it could look like a Buick from the front. It looks like a lot of stuff, but it doesn't look like a Lincoln. To a make a larger point, Lincoln now uses at least four separate design languages in its grills alone.

As a longtime Lincoln hater, it used to be fun to talk about "Stinkin' Lincolns." Now, I feel as though I am picking on a cripple. Lincoln pioneered to luxury SUV market with the Navigator. It allowed Cadillac to steal the march with the Escalade and now seems clueless as to how to get it back. The Lincoln Town Car had managed to top the Cadillac DeVille as America's favorite fullsize luxury sedan. It has now returned the spot to Cadillac. Lincoln is a ship without a rudder.

Lincoln should follow Cadillac's example. Pick a design language that evokes an emotionally appealing unique Lincoln persona. Then stick with it. Build the cars to high quality standards. Build Lincolns that people will want to drive.

Well its a modified Ford 500(Volvo S80) chassis with the Volvo (Yamaha V8) and perhaps a lower priced 3.5 Duratec V6. Hopefully Ford can do a good job tuning the chassis.

The 20" rims will make it to production, but of course the super-low profile tires will not. I think taking the fake ventport off improves the looks dramatically. Still, though, this is eerily reminiscent of the Lincoln LS. Design that is pleasing if not cutting edge, a mishmash of styling cues from current competitors, soon to be left behind as those competitors introduce new models. I hope the real model is more progressive.

I agree with your comment about "...you can't sell a young man an old man's car!"

Lincoln will probably not be able to attain a much younger consumer base like Cadillac. Lincoln, however, may be able to attract an increasingly maturer consumer in his mid-30's to mid-40's easier with the MKS ( and also the MKX & MKZ). I wouldn't expect to see the 20's and early 30 year olds flock to the dealership to purchase an MKS. But those you have bought an MKZ or MKX might want to move up to the MKS in the future. I think the MKS would make an excellent alternative to the Cadillac DTS or STS. I want elegance in my luxury car and that's what the Lincoln concept will have.

I like it all except for the rear end which reminds me of a Saturn Ion! And after seeing the Buick Enclave, the Lincoln MKX looks very plain! You can sell an old man a young mans car, but you can't sell a young man an old mans car!

For what it matters... The MKS just seems very plain and uninspiring. The front end looks very similar to a freshened 1990 Continental, and the rear, minus the Lincoln crosshairs, could be a Hyundai. Cadillac is certainly not the be all end off of design however; when the current design language came out it was a complete departure from everything else out there. In no way could it have ever been mistaken for anything else but a Cadillac. Lincoln seriously needs something that is so far away from what it is and was that you'll forget every boring, 'luxury-lite' car they've ever created.

I think that sketch is a step in a more desireable direction. It would be nice if a Lincoln rep or engineer leaked a preliminary sketch of the MKS. I like the concept as show at the recent auto shows and would do a lot to change the preception of the Lincoln brand...in the way Cadillac was re-born. Lincoln should go in this direction a pull the other vehicles in the line-up along with it too.

Side Note: Is the full-size Navigator necessary? As the current mid-size Aviator (re-badged Explorer) is discontinued, it was a descent offering in the luxury market. I don't think Lincoln needs to have a large luxury SUV. The brand should steer-clear of the full-size foray for now. The MKX will be nice, no doubt, but the Aviator should be renamed Navigator until a suitable full-size SUV replacement is available. In doing this, Ford can better control fuel consumption and emissions with a 3.5L V6 model offering and a more efficient future V8 for a mid-sized SUV. Let Cadillac reign the full-size market, while Lincoln can control the luxury crossover & luxury mid-size SUV segments.

This is definately encouraging! Even to have Fields finally talking tough is a welcome change. PLEASE do not just make a larger Zephyr, with its wildly ooutdated interior!

The C-pillar looks a lot like the one found one the current Lexus GS-series, which is a very good things. If Lincoln can produce it exactly as shown in the photos, it should be a very good-selling car, at least in terms of its design.
Sadly, though, Ford (Lincoln) will probably underpin it with a poor chassis, weak engine, uninspired interior design, and underwhelming performance... and cheap finishing touches, too.
Please prove me wrong, Ford, and don't disappoint!
