Ford considering diesel Expedition?

06/28/2006, 8:56 AM

By admin

Ford is considering building a diesel Expedition to compete with the hybrid versions of the Chevrolet Tahoe and GMC Yukon, according to Automotive News. A Ford spokesman admitted both hybrids and diesels are under development, but would not say which models would get the green treatment. However, an anonymous source told the trade publication that a large diesel SUV — possibly the Expedition — would be positioned against GM’s hybrid full-size trucks. Such a vehicle wouldn’t be ready until around 2010, the report said. GM plans to have its hybrid trucks ready for late 2007, and Chrysler will have its green Dodge Durango ready some time in 2008.

Diesel is way better than hybrid. Unless it is a diesel hybrid.

It would be pretty easy for Ford to drop in the F-250/350’s 6.0L Diesel V-8 for the Expedition, and use the (apparently still in development) 4.5L Diesel V-6 in the Explorer… :-)

Why bother Ford? You will always play second fiddle to the Duramax. Give it up

It will probably get the new 6.4L powerstroke diesel from the 2008 superduty.

Why dont they put out the hydraulic hybrid. The Epa developed prototype was a Expedition.
I think in just the last few days they have announced some UPS vans are about to go into use. This could be a great tech that could be implemented nearly right away,

Diesels are way to go because they suit the heavy bodies of SUVs. Heck, they even won endurance races at Sebring and LeMans this year. Diesel engines doesn’t have problems with the expensive battery packs of modern hybrids.

We want diesels! Ford should bring them on and soon or the foreign automakers will once again beat them to the market.

2010 is simply too late. Surely FoMoCo has some shorter contingency plan.

The RANGE ROVER V8 turbo-diesel or the International Powerstroke 4.5L V6 turbo-diesel engine currently used in the Ford LCF medium-duty truck might be the basis for a quick-fix diesel SUV.

I am very loyal to Ford, but they need to get this diesel ball rolling and stop letting very one beat them to the punch.

a inline diesel in a ranger with stiffer springs and bigger brakes would allow massive towing for trailors iam a painter my 3.0 isnt cutting it any weight at all it eats gas and rides like a low rider freakin inbarressinggg this would allow more work and less gas with the hi pro in diesel a verry fun eventure i would invest 40 miles a gallon dosent half to be a dream

Idle the Jaguar and Range Rover facilities and put those 2.7 and 3.6 liter diesels in the Five Hundreds, F-150’s and Expeditions.

Cut the (Jag/Rover) losses and get the house in order.

Expand the heck out of CCP CGI machining capability to add needed diesel production capacity here in the States.

When folks here in the States get a taste of those high tech diesels it will quickly become an issue of availability.

Re-introduce Jag/Rover later as “Top of the Heap” Lincolns…Or, something to that effect.

Blame on Ford Directors/Managements for failing to provide the fuel efficient engine for all SUVs. They did a great job on 2007 Expedition except horrible job on the engine with low MPG. They should have make the diesel engines now or make the engine that is similar to Tahoe engine with cyclider deactiviation/activation that will improve the MPG. Shame on FORD.
