Ford considering plug-in hybrid technology

05/11/2006, 2:17 PM

By admin

Ford is considering building hybrid vehicles with plug-in capability, according to a report today by Reuters. “We have nothing to announce today, but yes, we are keenly looking at it,” CEO Bill Ford said at an investor meeting today. Plug-in hybrids enable owners to use an electrical outlet at their home to charge the battery of their car, instead of burning gasoline in the car’s engine to generate electricity.

Uhhh, maybe the fact that there isn’t a plug-in made by an OEM currently on the market…..Seriously.

Why doesn’t every hybrid have this ability? In most parts of the country, wouldn’t it be much much more energy efficient and less expensive to charge the battery from the electrical grid feeding our homes rather than firing up the engine to do it? Otherwise, we’d each have dedicated combustion engine powered generators to power EVERYTHING in our homes, it seems.

Its my understanding it’s the application of the brakes that charge the batteries. If you to drive to work everyday its going to get charged anyway, though the plugin wouldn’t hurt.

Current hybrids have batteries that aren’t large enough to offer meaningful range. Plug-in hybrids have much more battery capacity, so they can drive in electrtic-only mode for greater distances.

oo when did electricity come out of thin air? The electric company burns COAL AND OIL to turn turbines to make electricity! If nuculear power and windpower were given a chance to be improved and not shot down by the same environmentalists who whine about gas, maybe these plugins would make more sense.. But now, all it is, is creating a heavier demand on the power grid and more burning smoke stacks….

The carmaker who brings the first plug in hybrid with exchangeable Lithium-Ionen Akku on the market, will grab 50% of the automobil market, if the others not rapidly follow.
Nothing will be like bevor.
With 2 KW Solarpanels, on the roof of your house, you can drive every day approx. 100 km with solarenergy.
Only the oil-lobby must be beaten bevor.
Maybe they will us taxe thereafter the sunshine.
