Although J.D. Power’s APEAL study ranked the Ford Edge at the top of its class yesterday, news comes today that Consumer Reports doesn’t give the new crossover as glowing a review.
CR’s August issue, which will hit newsstands early next week, includes a ranking of crossover vehicles. The Edge is ranked 15th out of 18 crossovers the independent magazine has tested in the last two years. To Ford , however, this news shouldn’t come as much of a shock: the Edge’s platform twin, the Lincoln MKX , ranked 16th out of 18 crossovers in the July issue of CR.
The Edge is considered a crucial product by Ford CEO Alan Mullaly. If any product is expected to turn around Ford’s sales slump in the short term, it’s the Edge. But the crossover is making some bold moves in Dearborn: sales of the Edge are exceeding expectations, but that’s partially due to buyers choosing the Edge over Ford’s similarly sized Explorer SUV.
