2009 Ford Edge Sport adds style to flagship crossover

02/05/2008, 10:24 AM

By admin

For the 2009 model year, Ford will begin offering a “Sport” version of its Edge crossover. The Ford Edge Sport offers standard 20- or optional 22-inch wheels, low-profile tires, exterior modifications and interior enhancements.

In addition to the premium wheel choices, the package includes 40-series Pirelli Scorpion Zero tires complete the look and improve handling and performance.

According to Ford, the Edge Sport marks the first time that a 22-inch wheel-and-tire combination has been offered on a crossover from the factory.

Details, like custom Sport badging, polished dual exhaust, and smoked headlamp and taillamp lenses are included.

Contrasting, light gray stitching on the seats helps differentiate the Sport model from the regular Edge. Edge Sport is further distinguished by an etched metal effect on the instrument panel center console.

Available paint colors include Sport Blue, Ebony, Brilliant Silver and Redfire.

LLN was behind on this one for the first time. Car and Driver had this posted very early this morning. Looks good, but who the hell wants to pay for 22″ tires when the stock ones go bald?

LMAO! Deuce Deuces!!! As if I haven’t already seen enough Ford Edge’s rolling on 20’s, but it looks a little cleaner on the outside, although those two-tone leather seats are a sad attempt compared to the level of two-tone interiors that are currently being offerred by everyone else, at least give it the two-tone interior that the MKS has I’ve been in one of those and I actually liked it. Well I know for sure that I’ll be seeing these all around Motown when these come out.

First comment, not like I care. Oh, and I meant LLN was behind and it’s the first time I have seen that happen. Sure they have been late on stories before.

Monotone paint looks better but it still looks like it was styled by a cadre of elementary school art class flunkies using only rulers.

Good move. Whenever Ford has brought out Sport models before, it has brought on additional sales. Maybe the 22 inch rims are a little over the “Edge” for most Edge buyers, but the Sport model will only be there to pick up “additional” sales they didn’t have. Price it right, and they have a winner.

I don’t mind the 2 tone seats but the white patterned middle looks really cheap. Also Ford needs to change their standard green lighting on the instruments and trip computer to something else. Bimmer still has their orange/red lights but they don’t go out of style as opposed to the green 80’s home CD player look.

Thats good looking SUV, one of the best looking out there, especially for the price. I just cant bring myself to consider a ford yet. I could purchase one used, and let the first guy take the hit, though.

Another niche package that will pick up some sales. But I think a performance tweek would close the deal with some.

Tastefully done. I think it looks improved on all accounts, except that maybe the wheels might be a bit overdone. But hey, I can’t afford this stuff anyways!

Big deal, for being a differant package they should do something that can’t be added to the line. Give me a break, I could put 22″wheels and seat covers on any edge. Do something differant. Toalking about the Ecoboost powerplant, lower suspension???? SOmething…..

Hey, this is actually pretty good-looking. :-) Too bad Ford doesn’t have any Diesel engine available, otherwise I’d seriously be considering this Sport version.

22 inch wheels? Why? I don’t need an extra mortgage payment everytime I go through a set of tires. Hell, the way Ford’s depreciate new rubber will be worth more than the vehicle in 6-7 years.

johnny: I don’t get those giant wheels and those thin tires. I REALLY don’t get those idiots with little 22″ decals on the side of their rigs.

@ jackjimturkey, LOL. I hate emblems, period. I am waiting for a 22″ high, 22″ emblem, affixed to the side of a vehicle.

Who the **** wants factory 22’s? Those rims are bland and matte. You normally can’t lose on twenty-twos, but these are butt-ugly.

I often thought this about Ford. They should take their most tarted up models, and release them as the “base” model. Work on improving them from that point.
