Sounds like a competitive little SUV, but definitely bland looking. Hard to believe that the same folks that pulled off the successful Mustang facelift did so little with the Escape (which is probably a higher volume product).

Well, if they would just replace this thing with the Kuga, you wouldn’t have to worry about a bland looking mini-ute from Ford anymore, and they’d probably have an additional buyer – me.

Well, it’s certainly not “too” good looking!!! Ugh…seriously, I like most of Ford’s products, but this is, hands down, the most bland small SUV on the market. I mean, it’s gotten lamer with each “update.” This doesn’t look edgy or progressive in the least. It could pass for a 1996 model for that matter.

It is good mileage for what it is. Not much less than a Matrix or Vibe.
Resale value will depend on fuel prices at resale time. If gas is $4 again or more in 5 years, the smaller engine will help resale.

I guess it’s a good thing that you can now load up a lot of vehicles with every option and keep the base engine. On the other hand I’m not quite convinced that’s the one option I’d want to be without at trade in or resale time. The other thing I’ve learned is that the difference in those mileage numbers on the window sticker between the base and optional engines tend not be as disparate in the great big nasty real world as one might be led to believe.

This is no doubt the best small SUV on the road. I just wish the styling was more edgy but it definitely has more appeal and technology than the other appliances on the road. I hope Ford restyles it soon after the ‘10 Equinox comes out.

I like the Ford Escape. I would consider getting it for my parents who’s looking to replace their 90′ Taurus station wagon. I wouldn’t buy it for me.

No matter the boring idea you may have about their car, it’s about the most practical, easy to drive and thrifty vehicle I’ve ever driven. Also good on gas while fairly quick. They only have the truck to tow things and fit the occasional large, bulky item in. Oh, and snow.

I rented an Escape last month and drove it about 250 miles along Vermont country roads. Couldn’t believe how much gas it drank. !9 or 20 mpg at a steady 50 or 60 mph. At that consumption rate you might as well drive a Suburban. Or a Continental Trailways bus.

When Ford re-did the Escape in midyear 2007, I was very pleased with the look of it. I still am. This is one of the few cases where Ford keeps the vehicle truly fresh a competitive, just by reskinning it.

Let’s see how it holds up against the 2010 ‘nox, with its DI 2.4 and 3.0 engines.

I drove older sibling of this one (rental fleet) and with V6 it was very capable little mule. But it was very, very fuel hungry. On par big Chevy SUV. Another good note: visibility is excellent. In today’s market of modernistic vehicles where without camera you can’t pull out of driveway, this old design is very refreshing.
