To answer your question, Car lover, not jew hater, the politicians I can think of off the top of my head are Joe Lieberman, Madeline Albright, Russ Feingold, Barbara Feinstein, Ari Fleischman, Henry Kissinger, and Michael Bloomberg. Those three are the most famous, but there are many more, such as Martin Frost (I know because he represents the district next to mine). And then, there are a lot of part-Jewish government officials like John Kerry, Wesley Clark, and Barry Goldwater, among others. Go to Wikipedia (www.wikipedia.com) and look at the list of well-known American Jews before you give me your nonsense that Jews don’t have a large control of the country and economy.

In view of these postings, it is abundantly clear that anit-semitic atitudes still exist. In response to Phil’s woes about the fictional 40% of American wealth being horded by Jews, your attitude sounds very communistic. I never heard anybody who believes in a free-market society complain about fairness and sharing the wealth. I didn’t hear you cry about Bush and his cronies controlling oil money, or the WASPs who brought down TYCO, Enron and Worldcom. Turning a blind eye to corruption but one towards hate, eh? and or about Carnegie’s anti-American sentiment in the 1930s? I know you don’t actually believe your own propaganda, but enjoy getting rises out of people. Quit projecting your boredom onto this site.

In any event, I don’t think many people, Jews included, think Jews are persecuted in present-day America. The point of the article was that Fields doesn’t face workplace discrimination in an industry famous for discrimination. And if you don’t believe me, try reading John DeLorean’s book [i]On a Clear Day You Can See General Motors[/i], which describes the excessively nasty racist attitudes (among plenty of other good stuff) at GM when he worked there, so many years ago.

And no, asdsad, I don’t dislike Jews. I go to a university that’s 30 or 40% Jewish, and I have many Jewish friends. Only people without class like ke still hate Jewish people and try to deny the Holocaust. But I feel that Jews have too much power to justify them being a “persecuted” group of people in today’s America. Pretty much every other minority group in the United States is more persecuted than the Jews. Credit their hard work for bringing them out of the armpits of American society, but seriously, their power in all aspects of American society — business, television, radio, politics, education, government, etc. — is way out of proportion to the 2% of the American population they represent. No other ethnic group, including the supposedly dominant white Protestant Americans, have a population-to-power proportion like that.

A practitioner of the Judaic religion in the United States and in many other parts of the world, particularly Israel and Europe, whose ancestors were the Israelites. Though virtually all Jews descended from a specific ethnic group that has notable genetic differences from Europeans, they have assimilated so much over the years with the Caucasians on the European continent through their diaspora that many of the physical characteristics that they otherwise would share with other peoples native to the Middle East (e.g. Arabs) have disappeared in favor of more common European traits (such as blond hair, fair skin tone, etc.). However, while they are often indistinguishable from native Europeans Caucasians, some Jews today still have physical characteristics that allow them to be classified as such, like curly dark hair and a protrusion in the ridge of an often narrow nose. American Jews often have a distinct accent similar to the stereotypical New York accent.

In the United States, Jews, who comprise 2% of the overall population, have traditionally lived mostly in the large metropolitan areas of the Northeast. Large numbers of Jews live in New York City and its suburbs; in New York City, 15% of the population is Jewish. Other major U.S. metropolitan areas with large Jewish populations are Los Angeles, Chicago, Miami, Washington/Baltimore, Detroit, and Philadelphia. Some smaller metropolitan areas with large Jewish populations include St. Louis, Cincinnati, and Pittsburgh. Recently, with the move of the general American population southward and westward, large Jewish populations have formed in metropolitan areas such as Atlanta, Houston, Dallas/Fort Worth, Phoenix, and Las Vegas.

In most of the definitions on this web site for the word “Jew,” the authors have tried hard to emphasize that the Jews have long been a persecuted group of people here in the United States and abroad. While that is true, I would be hard pressed to agree that they continue to face irrational persecution (at least here in the States), as some of the authors would have me believe. Though Jews only account for 2% of the population, they without a doubt hold much more than 2% of the power and wealth of this country, though I cannot provide a statistic that backs this claim, vague as it is. However, from my own observations, I would estimate that Jews hold about 40% of the nation’s power and wealth, which would indicate that less advantaged groups are not getting their fair share. For instance, in general, Asian Americans have a quite a bit of money to throw around but little of the power that Jews exert, partially because other racial and ethnic groups discriminate Asians based on their appearance and stereotype them as submissive. Jews typically do not have to face these same prejudices because, as I indicated in my definition, they look and act just like Americans of Caucasian European descent (and even more so in the last few decades as they have intermarried with non-Jews at high rates). Some people look at Asian Americans as the “new Jews,” due to a perceived strong work ethic, but as long as Asian Americans are not white, I don’t see them making advances in power anytime soon. Less traditional Jews thus have a big advantage over Asian Americans because of their “familiarly white” cultural practices and physical appearance. The notion that they are more assertive also helped in their acceptance into middle to upper-class American society in the latter part of the twentieth century. The fact that Jews hold much of the country’s power and wealth is ironic, as most Jews are liberal, and liberals have traditionally believed in such values as equality. It is even more ironic that while Jews often feel strongly in support of Israel, conservatives are more likely than liberals to be in favor of protecting Israel’s presence in the Middle East.

Anyway, while the Holocaust is sad, Jews have also done their fair share of bad deeds, such as terrorizing the Palestinians and arming themselves. Because of the US, they have a free hand to do whatever they want. The US never condemns Israel, and vetoes resolutions condeming Israel. As long as American keeps helping Israel, it will only get stronger, and more aggressive.
I admire the Iranian president’s defiance and bravery. Most leaders are cowards who bow down in the face of the US.
