Ford says that its dual-clutch six-speed automatic transmission – PowerShift – will now be available on twice as many models in Europe.
The Michigan automaker initially launched the PowerShift automatic on certain variants of its Focus and C-Max models; now it says that the Kuga, Mondeo, S-Max and Galaxy will be available with the advanced automatic.
On the Focus, S-Max and Galaxy, the PowerShift transmission is mated to Ford ’s new 2.0-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder gasoline engine, while all models equipped with the automaker’s 2.0-liter Duratorq diesel can be had with the six-speed.
On diesel models, the PowerShift transmission adds about £1,500 in the U.K. market.
In North America, only the Fiesta is available with a version of Ford’s PowerShift transmission – ironically, the Fiesta is available only with manual transmissions or a traditional four-speed automatic in Europe. Ford says that few European buyers would choose to select an automatic transmission in the Fiesta’s class.
