Ford unveiled its 2010 F-150 SVT Raptor back in November, but made no mention at the time of anticipated pricing. Over the weekend, Ford officially announced the high-performance truck will start at $38,995 for the 5.4-liter version and $41,995 for the ballsier 6.2-liter edition. A luxury package with 10-way adjustable leather seats will add $1,995, while the exterior graphics package (shown in some photos) will cost $1,075. An interior accent package for $395 adds orange mesh trim and orange seat inserts.
The off-road truck is powered by an updated version of the regular F-150’s 5.4-liter Triton V8 three-valve engine, delivering 320 horsepower and 390 pound-feet of torque. Also available will be a new 6.2-liter Boss V8 engine recently developed by the automaker, deliver 400 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque.
Ford says it performed extensive testing on the new powerplant, including subjecting fifty prototype engines to more than a dozen of the toughest engine tests at Ford’s dynamometer lab.
The SVT division used a 62-mile durability loop in the desert of Borrego Springs, California, to replicate the conditions of the Baja 1000 race, to further test the performance of both available engines.
While much of the focus will be on the new 6.2-liter mill, the 5.4-liter Triton also features a number of new technologies. A new open-valve fuel injection strategy improves horsepower during towing and higher rpm operations, while delivering lower emissions and better fuel economy.
Of course, engines are only part of the equation. A great deal of R&D went into the truck’s modified chassis and suspension. With 13.4 inches of usable travel in the rear suspension and 11.2 in the front, the Raptor promises to be a capable off-roader.
Raptor’s wider track and softer suspension mean it will glide over obstacles with relative ease. The suspension’s dampers were designed by Fox Racing Shox, giving the Raptor the only internal bypass shocks on a street truck. The position sensitive dampening internal bypass feature allows the shock to become significantly stiffer as it travels, preventing the truck from bottoming out.
The last component of the Raptor’s connection to the ground comes in the form of BF Goodrich All-Terrain TA/KO 315/70-17 tires. Mounted on 17-inch wheels, these 35-inch tires are designed to work on- and off-road.
High-tech features include: Trailer Sway Control, an Integrated Trailer Brake Controller, an Electronic Locking Differential, Hill Descent Control, an Off-Road Mode, and an Auxiliary Switch Board to facilitate aftermarket add-ons.
The F-150 SVT Raptor will be built along side the new F-150 at Ford’s Dearborn Truck Plant at the Rouge Center in Dearborn, Michigan.

That is a bargain for a turn-key off road machine tuned for the Baja, full warranty and full North American support. The Baja is quite a rugged peninsula, if anyone has been there, they will tell you it is brutal terrain. Beautiful place.
Nothing else like this exists from any manufacturer. I can’t wait to see the specialized parts list, as I’m certain it is extensive and would cost at least double to do it aftermarket.
Ballsy marketing decision, and if you want one I doubt it may last 1 or 2 model years, unless the economy recovers.
Like the BMW X6… you either get it for what it is and love it or you don’t get it and hate on it.

As for those who say it is too expensive and nobody uses that capability bla bla bla, tell it to all those idiots who buy high-priced garage-queen M5s and M3s and AMGs and Astons and Cayennes and Vettes and V10 Toauregs (and and and) and never even come close to using the capabilities that are built into the prices. The chances of the average Raptor buyer using even some of the capability engineered into that truck are higher than your average M5 buyer.

You know, even though trucks aren’t my thing, I like this. It’s a no-excuse real off road truck. I love the Raptor name and all the special effects on the outside. It’s maybe the most refreshing nostalgic car I’ve seen, it screams “80′a” and early 90’s when special edition trucks were all the rage. I’m not one to go off roading, but I think this has a market with those that do and with a ATV or Motorcycles in the back that you can’t do with the Wrangler and H2 SUT with it’s small rear bed.
Not knowing the future of the industry with fuel mileage standards may make a case for this truck to be collectors car too. It’s not badly priced either. Has anyone looked at what a loaded F-150 costs these days? For aftermarket parts alone to get a truck to look and be as capable aas this it would take some serious cash and time, plus you are under warrenty and can get the truck financed, unlike some aftermarket parts.

Having just spent the week in Daytona Beach, where I saw more lifted trucks than any other single type of vehicle there, I can there is definately a big market for trucks like this. Many of those trucks were fairly new diesel F350 or 3500 duallys, which cost about that (surpise!) $40,000. Then they had been given a lift and new tires, so paying $40,000 for a truck this capable is a bargain. If I was going to buy this, it would be black and I would pass on the decals

And to whoever said Dodge should put the 6.1L Hemi in the Ram and bring back the SRT10….the Ram SRT10 and SVT Raptor don’t compete. The Dodge is built for a road racing truck, verse the Ford which is designed for off-road.
The decals or whatever look cool. Personally, I’d opt not to have them, but for publicity’s sake and drawing attention, they work well.

My guess is most people that can afford this truck can afford a cell phone too…and sure would like to keep both hands on the wheel? I cannot figure out why Ford can’t “get it” with the technology that is out there today…when their foreign counterparts do…and as a result are passing them up on sales. Now, for the commenters that have no idea what the hell they’re talking about:
OutThere – There is an available in-dash navigation system available. Ford SYNC is also available. You really should go and find someone that has an 09 or newer Ford/Lincoln/Mercury and try it out; it’s arguably one of the best navigation and integration packages available (with Sync). Assuming you still don’t know what I’m talking about, Sync is the USB/Line In/Phone/Bluetooth/CD/Basically everything electronic in the car voice control system that you said doesn’t exist because Ford “can’t get it”.
Shanetrain – the vents on the hood and sides of the front quarter panel are fully functional heat extractors so that air can come from in front and below the truck and through the engine compartment to remove heat. If that’s such a grievous use of plastics maybe you should go back and buy a 30’s or 40’s roadster that has metal louvers instead. The running boards (if you think those are plastic too), are cast aluminum, coated with rubberized bed liner. This is hardly an Avalanche.

Seriously thinking of getting one of these. The local Ford dealer in Huntington Beach, CA had two of these on the lot a black one and the orange one. It is a good looking truck inside and out and while the orange is a little bright for me, the black would be a little hot out in the desert. I go to the desert quite a bit to go shooting, dirt bike riding, or to catch a MDR race and this truck would be perfect for tooling around out there. For racing…. probably not, but way more off-road capable than any other factory truck from the domestics or imports.
It’s got the suspension to handle most of the dirt roads and trails out there. For the $38k-$40k you get a very capable truck with AC, Navigation, leather, factory warranty. I think if you tried to build a similar truck you could do it, but it would cost you more than $40k and then you would have voided your factory warranty or have to do without the use of your truck bed or something.
I think Ford has a winner on their hands. With Chevy and Dodge taking the bailout money you can bet that the excitement has left the building. While the govt. probably doesn’t want to start selling cars you can bet they are going to have a say about what direction Chevy takes, the govt. will want a return on the bailout money. As for Dodge well I think they are a little better off, but then again Fiat is not an American company. Fiat did not get where they are today building big trucks for the public, they got there by building smaller more fuel efficient vehicles for the masses. While I don’t think they would want to drop or screw up the truck division at Dodge, you can bet their bean counters will dictate what does and does not get built..

We set the truck in 4Hi and activated its unique off-road mode, which changes the engine’s throttle map, leaving the butterfly valve fully open when pushing the accelerator down through its entire arc. That’s intended to give it linear throttle response, like a race truck, instead of high power at the beginning that’s tapered at the end, like a street truck. In the first few miles through Borrego’s dry creek beds, we kept our speed to only about 30 to 40 mph. It gave us a chance to earn our Raptor legs. What was most amazing about the first few miles — and what quickly became expected behavior was how well-mannered the truck was while crossing washboard terrain that would have cracked our skulls on the roof of an ordinary half-ton. The Raptor doesn’t have the low-speed rock-crawling focus of the Dodge Ram Trucks Power Wagon or Hummer H3T, and the 5.4-liter version may not be powerful enough for some, but the Raptor’s overall versatility in the dirt is as close to perfection as you’re going to get if you want to take your off-road recreation to the next level.
